Mahina Rajapakse said he wants to incorporate Buddhist principles in the administration of the state. The President said a moral society is disciplined and only a disciplined society can prosper.

The president added that he plans to incorporate more Buddhist principles in the administration of the state. In order to develop a society should be built on morals the president claimed. “A moral society is disciplined and only a disciplined society can prosper,” he said.

Rajapakse said it was his duty to make the country an island of dharma.

President said he has a major responsibility to make the country an island of dharma once aging like the ancient kings did while developing the country in parallel.

Whether Sri Lankans who were non-Buddhists would benefit from the new administration is yet to be seen.

I am against any such intend, It will only divide the Country further and cause new unrest and discrimination.

A Government has to stay Laic if its goal is Justice, Equality and Democracy as well as Human Rights.

I fully agree with you Paschen. Only time will tell if the proposed administration that Rajapakse plans to incorporate will work for non-Buddhists too. Religion and politics should be kept apart. I will be following this story closely and will include any new information I come across.

You must be kidding!! What does Rajapaksa think? Does he think he is a god or something?

Again and again, they are proving Sri Lanka is for Sinhala Buddhists. And, they are barring Tamils' right to self-determination.

Yet again, We have one race oppressed at the hand of authoritarian rule. Half of the world is helping the oppressor and other half is silently watching.

I really don't think the rest of the world will be able to do anything about this if the new administration Rajapakse intends to propose is unfair to Sri Lankan non-Buddhists Sivakaran.

Only time will tell what will be the outcome of this new administration. I wonder what Rajapakse's wife thinks of his new intended administration since she is not a Buddhist.

It did work for Ashoka  Sara Star but the difference here is that the Emperor Ashoka from what I know did not prison his own people in camps and deprive them of a normal life when he embraced Buddhism like Rajapakse has. I also don't think he would have allowed his subordinates to be involved in the disappearances and kidnappings of people either. I just hope that this new proposed administration of Rajapakse's will benefit all Sri lankan communities who are not Buddhists.

Thank you for the link to your story Ashoka. It's a very nice story. Thank you also for the update and video.

Sara, he may have been a good Emperor. however he was a Dictator never the less.

Over 2000 years ago human society was less diverse and more obedient of their rulers no matter who it may have been.

Those that ruled wisely and with the well being of their subjects in mind are well remembered for it. Today with democracy and freedom of expression this Emperor could not exist any longer regardless of his wisdom. I do like Buddhism my self as a philosophy, not as Government.

I do prefer democracy over taking my chances to have a good dictator, for those where few in Human history.

Sara,

If you are going to call Sri Lanka a Buddhist country, what about Hindus, Muslims, Christian, and others. Its rather interesting you used the buddhanet.net as your source to say that.

Please don't tell me that majority is Buddhist. Are you going to call Canada Christian country?

No religion teaches one to do wrong. So when you see, all religions have just about the same principles. Whatever the principles are, I believe it all depends on how each individual conducts himself.

Why are we all getting excited about this? Do you think there are going to be hard and fast rules governing the country? No way.

As a Buddhist, I think, until the government kicks out the Buddhist monks from parliament, nothing much could be done in the way of this Buddhist principles thing anyway. Well, it all has to start from there. So, let's see what happens. Until then, lets start with the man in the mirror and be good people. :)

Rajapakse Slashes His Trump Card 'Buddhism'

During a function in Colombo, Rajapakse beseeched the countries that patronage Buddhism to come forward and save Sri Lanka from getting humiliated by the west.

Buddhist people should urge the government to support Lanka and help them to make it an adulteration free Sinhalese nation. Buddhist monks had fought for their rights in the history and they should take up their vows once again this time. Foreign countries in the west are trying to exploit Sri Lanka by questioning the aftermath of the war and to gain equal rights for the Tamils.

Monks are the pillars of Buddhism and it is their duty to revoke the fight for freedom, said RajaPakse.

The provoking speech is believed to be the step to eradicate the minority race and kindle the flame of enemity among the Sinhala population in Sri Lanka.
