The 13th Matchday in the top German Soccer League, The Bundesliga, is now in the record books.  With only 4 games to go to the midway point of the season, some conclusions can be drawn.

Bayern Muenchen, long time German champion, is barely holding on to the top of the league, sitting in 7th place with only 21 points.  That.s a two game deficit from league leader Bayer 04 Leverkusen.  Incidentally those two teams met this week in Muenchen and played to a 1-1 tie.

Leverkusen, Bremen and Schalke 04 on top of the table are separated by 1 point each and one of those three will no doubt capture the fall championship (Herbstmeisterschaft - the unofficial champion after the inital 17 games). The German League takes a 6 week break in mid December  prior to recommencing league play near the end of January.

At the bottom of the league, fighting relegation, are Stuttgart, Bochum and Hertha BSC Berlin.  All three teams have a long history of successful seasons.  Stuttgart was the league champion just three years agoBerlin is at the bottom of the league with just 5 points.  It will be a tough road ahead to emerge from the relegation zone any time soon.
