After success in Dir, a major military offensive has been launched against Taliban in Buner. FC (Frontier Constabulary) and Pakistan Army are taking part in this operation with air support being provided by PAF (Pakistan Air Force) and Pakistan Army Aviation Corps. The operation is being supervised by IG(Inspector General), FC.

Director-General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Athar Abbas said on Tuesday that the government would not allow anyone to violate writ of the state adding that a major offensive has been launched to flush out militants from Buner.

Addressing a press briefing here, Major General Athar Abbas said that security forces extended an offensive against Taliban militants to Buner district, around 100 km (60 miles) north of the capital Islamabad.

“The military launched an operation at 4:00 pm today, the aim of the offensive is to eliminate and expel militants from Buner”, Abbas said.

He said the army and the Frontier Corps troops have entered Buner and IG FC is overseeing the operation. Abbas said that over 70 militants were killed in Lower Dir operation while 10 security forces personnel were martyred. Abbas said that fighter jets of PAF are also taking part in the operation.

He said over 500 militants, equipped with sophisticated communication system, are holed up in various parts of Buner who are constantly receiving money and arms from unknown sources.
A major military operation was launched against Taliban militants in Buner district Tuesday, DawnNews reports.

The operation aims to eliminate militants who had faked their exit from the area, Director-General ISPR Athar Abbas told DawnNews, adding that the operation in Lower Dir has been completed.

The operation in Buner was launched at 04:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Abbas said. He said that militants in the area had refused to heed the government's warnings and had been kidnapping young boys for recruitment into the Taliban's ranks.

Both the Frontier Corps and regular army forces are taking part in the operation, Abbas added.

Explosions were heard as gunship helicopters pounded militant strongholds in the mountains. A curfew has also been imposed in the district, DPO Buner told DawnNews.

Meanwhile, local Taliban blew up the main bridge in Buner’s Ambala area.

Separately, NWFP Governor Owais Ghani said despite repeated warnings, militants were not leaving the district.

Maybe Pakistan should try and fight this war with some gusto. Over 10,000 Pakistani troops are on peacekeeping missions OUTSIDE Pakistan, mostly in Africa. Why? Because there is more money to be made serving on UN missions than fighting terrorists. All our lives are put at risk so some Pakistani soldiers can score a few hundred US dollars a day and other 'perks'.

News from your own country. so tell us, Nauman, do you want the Tali-bans to win?

Nauman I.ve added this map from Wikepedia since I didn.t know where Bunar District was.  I.m sure others are in the same boat as I am.  For those that don't know where it is, it.s the area marked in red on the map.

Outrageous claims, when Pakistan itself has actually paid the Tal-bans $6 million, wherever they hgot it, to claim the US is backing the Taliban.

Rene, see, the piece that you posted is from Karachi (which is currently having many differences with the current establishment), and above all, from an unauthentic source! If you were a Pakistani you won't have even given a thought to posting this news. You are an American, if I'm not wrong, you don't know each and everything about Pakistan. Such pieces of junk many a times, on hourly basis, come from different parts of the country, since our people love enjoying and spreading rumors and these can be declared biased because of the fact that political leadership of Karachi has (now) many politico-religious differences with the Taliban and the current federation. OK, i ask you something, would you ever sponsor your own enemy? No! Because no one wants his country's infrastructure dismantled, his children dead with toy-bombs, his sister/mother/wife flogged for no reason, he not being able to shave(lol), war is a shit, gives nothing, takes everything, we are the biggest stake holders of this so-called 'war on terror'. It's not being fought on your lands! It's being fought on our land! The majority of Pakistan hates Taliban, there's not a single good reason of us helping the Tallies, our people are sick of Tallies and the US.

And, an apology, i, for some unknown reasons, got biased and declared your claim vague, and now that you have come up with some real stuff, so sorry for that...

Also, i can post hundreds of links which say that this is sponsoring and that is sponsoring the Tallies, RAW, US and Iran being on top of the list. But, why should I? For, i know that, we the journalist fraternity, say very bigie bigie things but the reality belongs to those who are facing it: A journalist sitting in NY can say what he has ought to say but it's the Sgt. driving a tank on the hilly terrains of Afghanistan who knows the real thing, that how it feels to be away form home, moving against an enemy who knows no fear, same way, it's very easy to claim this and that sitting in an office in Karachi or Islamabad, very hard to face those idiots who don't even wear a uniform.

The media of pakistan enjoys complete freedom, if this would have been a real deal, it would have reached me, i didn't even hear about it before, so for me it's just another piece of junk. And please, take a purposive approach to what's happening in FATA, you and my other respected colleagues on NP have the right to say whatever they find right, but, remember it's the populace of FATA who is at stake. They are all humans, most of them very good humans, but got stuck, somehow...

So what about the News International Pakistan? not one you catch? How about A Pakistan News? there's even a Sikh one. and they all claim that the Taliban got $6 million from the Pakistan government in the SWAT deal.

Course the Pakistan government is not going to want their citizens to know this, are they?.

Pak Army wont succeed. It is a long haul. There would be only tactical change on the part of Taliban. It cannot be decimated in this decade.

How can they, when even the so-called friends of Pakistan are backing the Taliban. So many nations have their political motives stuck in this (so-called) 'war on terror'. We are stuck, but, we won't let them win over us.

By the way, it's a long haul b/c even the biggest stake holders in this 'war on terror' save Pakistan don't want an end that sooner. Their political motives will dissipate if Pakistan wins over Taliban that sooner. On one side they keep us busy diplomatically while on the other side they keep on playing with us. Yes, I am talking about the United States of America, the main architect behind 'Taliban' and the so-called 'war on terror'. So many drone attacks and just one or two hit their target(s), the others hit the innocent populace of Tribal Areas. People can just exclaim sitting in the remote(st) areas around the world, well, they have the right to exclaim, but it's just we, the Pakistanis, who know what's in and what's out, whose playing for us and whose playing against us.

Peace!

Maybe they should fight it with some gusto: 10,000 Pakistani troops are serving on peacekeeping missions OUTSIDE Pakistan. When your country is facing a major terrorist insurgency does it not make sense to have all your armed force on the job?

Just 10,000 out of an active force of 550,000 personnel and 528,000 men in reserve, not much as compared to millions of men out for crude oil. Mr. (or whatever) not verified, try to seek things from all perspectives, those men out on peace-keeping missions are on duty, duty which belongs to the whole nation because of it's membership in the UN. At least, they are not running for blood diamonds or crude oil, if the question is just of few hundred US dollars then they owe them, as a consideration for the services they render.

Just FC (Frontier Constabulary) is enough to beat the hell out of those Tallies but he question is, how can we win that so-called 'war on terror' when our own friends, main stake-holders in this war, sometimes act as our enemies. You can't win a cricket match when your main players are with the opposite team, two or three reserves don't matter!

Yours too, vague and obscure!

I am taking my apology back, partly because you don't deserve it and partly because that news was just an opinion, not based upon facts! Also, if some opinion gets such a huge coverage, this isn't enough to declare it a fact as mostly rumors get the most of the coverage. Now, gnash your teeth!

Read this, this and this. By the way, I have so many, think three are enough for the moment, need more, do ask!
