A Special Christmas Card - Bradford District Burglary Campaign

Police in West Yorkshire are using the letter written by a 10 year old girl to the person who burgled her home, to try and encourage known burglars in the area to stop and think of their victims by sending a copy of the letter in a christmas card to them.

A 10-year-old girl was so upset after her home was burgled she wrote a letter to the man responsible asking him why he carried out the crime.

Police said the criminal was "visibly" moved when Amy Winteridge's mother read the letter to him as part of a probation rehabilitation programme.

In the letter, Amy, of Shipley, West Yorkshire, wrote: "Who came up with the stupid idea to burgle us?"

She added that what happened had left her "scared to death".

The letter is being used on a Christmas card being sent out by West Yorkshire Police to known burglars across the Bradford area, to make them think about their crimes.

I've always felt that people who carry out these types of crime are unlikely to have any kind of sympathy or thought for anyone but themselves, it is very hard to appeal to someone's sense of common decency with they haven't got one.

But good luck West Yorkshire police, if it does work maybe we can roll the idea out worldwide.

Every Human has a continence, some are just dormant or damaged and in need of some attention.

Some time the little spark can change things in a big way.

If you do not try it you never know. And even if it just makes a difference with some very few, then it was well worth it.

Oh this is sad - it's worth a try at least I think.

this burglar must feel like Scrooge right now, it would be nice to see the Christmas holiday spirit win him over

Most people have a heart and I am sure that a 10 year old girl is the best envoy to find compassion. Expect a drop in burglaries in West Yorkshire.
