NP Rank:
Burma to allow all foreign aid workers in
Burma's military junta has finally relented and agreed to allow all forein aid workers into the country. The junta has beenblocking visas for most foreign aid workers so far.
It's not clear if this agreement includes accepting aid from the US naval ships stationed nearby.
Burma's junta leader has agreed to allow access to all foreign aid workers tohelp with the relief operation after Cyclone Nargis, UN Secretary GeneralBan Ki Moon has said.
Mr Ban made the announcement after more than two hours of talks with SeniorGeneral Than Shwe, the reclusive leader of the country’s military regime, whose refusal to let them in earlier set off international outrage.
The decision should help to ease a three-week standoff since the cyclone toreinto the country on May 2-3, leaving at least 133,000 people dead or missingand around 2.5 million more in dire need of immediate aid.
“He has agreed to allow all aid workers,” Mr Ban told reporters in the remotenew capital Naypyidaw following closed-door talks with the 75-year-oldgeneral who heads one of the poorest and most isolated nations in the world.

Any longer and the only thing they would need is body bags. What a horrendous excuse for a government! I hope they can get help before the diseases start killing even more.
Hey? Maybe Bush could invade and bring democracy to the Burmese. The Iranians clearly do not appreciate the huge opportunity Bush has given them. Added bonus: the Burmese apparently do not disrespect armed millitia who take over their country (unlike those damn ungrateful Iranians).
