Burmese Name Dropping: "Gee "Who Didn't See That One Coming?
Opinion
Barry Artiste, Now Public Contributor
As I mentioned previously in posts, the only reason for Burmas Military Junta to not allow Aid workers to distribute food to the starving masses is one reason and one reason only. "Propaganda" these "Shit for Brains Despots" looking to take all the credit for disaster relief, are plastering their names on all food and aid packages and like so many Santa Clauses are dispensing this Aid to the starving masses, letting the populace know in no uncertain terms it is "They" who are the true heroes to be revered.
Perhaps it is time for these "Puffed up Chicken Chested Genocidal Despots" the World Over to be wiped off the face of this earth in one fell Allied Military Sweep, with generous amounts of "Whup Ass!" While were at it, perhaps a stop into North Korea and Africa while we are at it.
Sad, Western Nations have to be the "World Police", pumping untold Billions and Billions in Aid to those who
allow Mass Starvation or Death caused by those who thumb their noses at a civilized society as they are allowed "Free Reign" while taking our Aid Money at a moments notice as their own personal piggy bank.
I would not have a problem with them taking a long Dirt Nap.
If world opinion is against all the above, then they are part and parcel in the genocide as well.
If the affected populace do not wish Western Nations to interfere, to fight and die to stop this corruption once and for all and wish us to do all the fighting and dying for them, then perhaps all Aid should stop immediately. Granted many will die, but just as many are dying anyway with our help. Better to see an end result instead of the ongoing Status Quo.
We have been propping up dictatorships for decades paying them not to kill or subjegate their own people. North Korea for example.
Once the Aid stops, then we'll see how far the despots army loyalty goes once they are fighting without a paycheque, food and bullets.
But then that is just my opinion, anyone got a better idea?
Burmese generals turn aid into propaganda exerciseUpdated Sat. May. 10 2008 8:53 AM ET
CTV.ca News Staff
Burma's military regime has plastered boxes containing international relief supplies with the names of top generals.
State-run television continuously showed images of the country's top generals -- including Senior Gen. Than Shwe, the junta's leader -- handing out boxes at ceremonies.
The junta has so far refused to allow foreign experts to deliver aid to assist their country, ravaged by Cyclone Nardis, saying it will only accept donations and then take responsibility for distribution.
"We have already seen regional commanders putting their names on the side of aid shipments from Asia, saying this was a gift from them and then distributing it in their region," said Mark Farmaner, director of Burma Campaign UK.

Stop the aid?
The way I see it America gives a ton of aid to these tin pot dictatorships and 1.) we get blamed for not doing enough and 2.) we get blamed for giving aid only to further our own national interests. So I think we should stop the aid.
You are right Barry, the "aid" that is given to these groups is what keeps them going. They have so completely destroyed their nations that they can no longer produce anything worthwhile. Look at Zimbabwe, once the "breadbasket" of Africa. Then Mugabe took the reigns and the breadbasket quickly went empty.
Of course, talking about stopping aid is extremely callous because it will end in the deaths of (probably) millions really quick. And this will lead to revolution and, in all seriousness, just another tin pot dictator, if history is any barometer for the future.
Maybe my logic has been flawed but this is exactly why I support the Bush Doctrine. Passive aggressive foreign policy - like stopping aid and doing embargoes - just doesn't work.
Unfortunately, the Bush Doctrine is politically unfeasible at this point (even if McCain becomes president). Spreading democracy is just too hard and too costly in the short run for too many people.
But in the long run I do believe it will produce amazing gains. Cut the heads off of these dictatorships, create a situation where democracy can take root, and provide for the security of that nation and good things will start to happen.
My guess for what is actually going to happen is this: Westerners are going to continue to cry about the poor situation of so many people in the world, they will blame themselves and their governments, money will be given to aforementioned poor people, which means most will going to those who are actually at fault for the poor condition of those people - their tin pot dictators.
And whenever another Darfur comes to public knowledge the same hand-wringing will go on and celebrities will denounce America for not doing "it's part as a global citizen" and more money will be given (mostly to the tin pots again) to assuage imagined Western guilt.
Anyways, have a nice weekend Barry! Good stuff.

Thanks BigT for the extensive commentary, certainly a factual eyeopener. Though my Opinion to stop all aid may seem callous, on the other hand those who do not wish to fight back and help themselves improve their country into a better world, deserve what they get. They have to think of their children and the future generations in order to survive, if it takes laying down your life for your freedom and the longevity of your children and their children so be it. I would not think twice doing it, and have done it for other countries on behalf of my country. Those who don't better not expect us to die for them as they sit back and watch and have more children and mouths to feed, mouths we are paying for in Aid. Time to stop the Nancyisms and put our might where our Aid lies, failing to put these despots out of business once and for all, will mean more despots in this world and a higher price in Aid we will have to pay to support them. Haiti for example is one place where aid doesn't do squat obviously, if it means putting someone democratic to rule by force so be it. Let's get on with business and democracy and stop being the generous welfare office to the worlds dictators.
Again, BigT thanks for the commentary. Lets hope others will share their views on this post!

Barry Artiste, I like this story. I don't believe in stopping all aid, but there must be a better way to deal with this situation. We shall just have to keep trying to help the people any way we can, as we can't abandon them.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff. The Plight of a dictator is to take credit. Doctors who go to North Korea know this well. They do all the work but the, "Great Leader" gets all the credit.

Thanks Amy and Politisite, I guess I am just getting really frustrated watching in the news more of our Sons and Daughters coming home in Body Bags, while those they protect sit around drink tea, and contribute nothing, with divided loyalties to whoever gives them something in return.
Then to top it all off, life seems to go on all around them, as media show these same people who proclaim to be helpless have more and more AND MORE children, in which our Aid agencies must feed and protect, children who for the most part may not see their next birthday, due to despots. I put it this way, if you are fit enough to procreate, you are certainly fit enough to fight alongside us, after all we are there for you. If you fail to protect your culture and way of life, then it will be placed into History. Sorry to be horrid, but I think it time to "Cull the Despot Herd" and cut off aid!! Despots and their armies can't very well fight with the basic necessities, even small amounts of aid are taken by despots, so best stop it entirely. Then and only then will the people out of desperation be forced to fight for survival and take back their lands and be self sufficient. Once done, maybe Aid can resume under OUR Conditions, not theirs. Again, I refer to North Korea, Darfur as well as Burma as avery small example.

They sit around and drink tea because we give them the choice to. It does sound cold, but if you just up and offer to do something for someone they will let you do it. They have no reason to not do so.
The old saying "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day" is not even close to right. He doesn't eat for a day, he complains that he doesn't like fish... or that there were bones in the fillet. And onlookers complain that you are a bastard because you were too greedy to give him carrots and garlic potatoes along with it.
But pardon me... I am just aimlessly ranting now. Sorry.

Actually Mikasi, you are not ranting, just stating a fact. Thanks for that insight

Perhaps this "DESPOT" government is not interested in dealing with the stings that go along with western aid.
Perhaps they prefer to keep American influence outside of their borders.
Perhaps they prefer to keep their present banking system
Don't believe everything you hear or read.
Since when do "DESPOT" governments hold elections??
Take a look at your own Country and look for the Despots closer to home

Well Sparky if Despots are so anti American or Western, they certainly do not turn down the Billions in Aid we give them now, don't they? No I do not believe everything I read or hear, but proof is in the pudding when millions are starving because of despots incompetence and a countries inability for self reliance. As for my country, granted it aint perfect, but considering the other countries out there, I like mine just fine thank you very much. Do not get me wrong Sparky, I am in no way invalidating your commentary, it is just if they are so averse to us, why insist we help them financially and yet refuse our advice? They really cannot have it both ways.
in ending, thanks for your point of view Sparky.
