Bush Widens 'Secret' War On Iran
OPINION: I am going to attempt to recount what has brought us to this secret Presidential "finding", see story below, but what passes for logic in the Whitehouse is so Byzantine in its convolutions it is difficult to even approach employing critical thinking skills. So let's condense and recount some facts and then I'll finish with the only opinion available to any sane person in the face of those facts.
The USA attacked a helpless sovereign country half-way around the world based on an old grudge and a pack of lies, and maybe a desire to loot it of its resources, this after causing massive numbers of deaths by enforcing years of sanctions. In the process of committing this international crime it has killed or been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and has destroyed the country completely causing the millions left alive to flee to neighboring countries. It has also been interfering in the internal affairs of all sovereign nations in the region for decades to the detriment of the whole Middle East, and global stability.
Now, based on another old grudge and another pack of lies the USA is attempting to break the back of Iran, another sovereign country which poses no threat but in which the USA has caused repeated upheavals and hundreds of thousands of deaths over the decades. It has threatened to 'flatten' Iran and has left the use of nuclear weapons "on the table" should it decide their use is necessary. It is attempting to starve the people and the country through unjustifiable sanctions and has enough fire power floating in the Gulf and in already conquered neighboring states that it can finish with force what it has been attempting to do with covert and overt manipulations and guile for so long.
Dubya and his psychotic playmates are upset because Iran is attempting to influence the outcome of this massive interference in its neighbors countries, and disrupt the USA's ability to continue to kill and destroy in Iraq and Lebanon and Syria, though there is no credible proof of this Iranian 'interference'. Kinda like like China being upset by US efforts to subvert the internal situation in Canada isn't it? People in the west would laugh if China spoke out about this very real threat to Canada, but in this situation in the Middle East the fools in NATO and the West are lining up to get a few punches in on Iran themselves like a pack of mid-school bullies.
Bush's poodle Patraeus lies some more about Iranian interference and weapons in Iraq, even though Iran would be well within its rights to do everything in its power to fight Americans in Iraq and anywhere else in its neighborhood. Contrarily, however, Iran has demonstrated amazing restraint and not replied in kind, and has actually brokered ceasefires in the conflict thus saving many lives.
Now let me get this straight. Bush is now secretly pouring hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars into destabilizing and attacking Iran again for the umpteenth time and Iran is supposed to just sit on its hands and do nothing? It is supposed to let the Americans finish off Iraq, destroy Syria, destabilize and dominate Lebanon with its Israeli proxy? It is not supposed to develop peaceful nuclear power even though it has every legal right to do so? It isn't supposed to defend itself at all? If hypocrisy was an art-form Bush would be Michelangelo!
The conclusions anyone with even a modicum of morality and intelligence must arrive at are, well, almost moot aren't they?
I hope the Iranians do whatever it takes to defend themselves against the criminals who pass themselves off as the purveyors of freedom and democracy. What a sad, sad joke that delusion is!
I hope the Iranians spring a full-fledged, ready to go nuclear warhead on the coalition of the callous soon, hold it high in the air and tell the vultures and the vampires to just bloody well back-off or else!
Anyone reading this knows in their heart of hearts that if what is happening to Iran and other Middle East nations at the hands of the USA, NATO, and Israel was happening to their country they would fight to the last man to destroy their enemy, and would attack that enemy anywhere and anyway they could, with any and all weapons at their disposal.
And you think George and his murdering ways are making you safer? If I was American I wouldn't be traveling outside the USA for a long time. All I can say to Bush, Cheney, Blair, Harper, Howard, Sarkozy and Ohlmert is, though shalt reap what thou sowest! I just hope I live long enough to see justice done.
Six weeks ago, President Bush signed a secret finding authorizing a covert offensive against the Iranian regime that, according to those familiar with its contents, "unprecedented in its scope."Bush’s secret directive covers actions across a huge geographic area – from Lebanon to Afghanistan – but is also far more sweeping in the type of actions permitted under its guidelines – up to and including the assassination of targeted officials. This widened scope clears the way, for example, for full support for the military arm of Mujahedin-e Khalq, the cultish Iranian opposition group, despite its enduring position on the State Department's list of terrorist groups.
Similarly, covert funds can now flow without restriction to Jundullah, or "army of god," the militant Sunni group in Iranian Baluchistan – just across the Afghan border -- whose leader was featured not long ago on Dan Rather Reports cutting his brother in law's throat.
Other elements that will benefit from U.S. largesse and advice include Iranian Kurdish nationalists, as well the Ahwazi arabs of south west Iran. Further afield, operations against Iran's Hezbollah allies in Lebanon will be stepped up, along with efforts to destabilize the Syrian regime.

It always amazes me what kind of people governments will ally themselves with to counter a common enemy.

Every President since James Earl Carter Jr. has followed and on some occasions, implemented the "Carter Doctrine". Sounds like you're having a problem with Bush II's execution of it, even though Presidents Clinton, Bush I and Reagan either did, or would have done the same.
Just today, President Ahmadinejad said, "Nations of the region hate this criminal fabricated regime (Israel) and will uproot this fabricated regime if the smallest and shortest opportunity is given to them." Ahmadinejad's "threat of the week" is certainly no reason to flatten Iran, but to do nothing at all is not an option. Any American President from the mid-seventies on would do something. It's the really just the "something", and the fact that W is the one doing it, that you object to.

I agree with Ahmedinejad, about the murderous Zionist 'regime' that runs Israel too, and because I disagree with Bush in this article don't think for a minute that I agree with the behavior of America and its Presidents in the past. Bush is just the symptom of the malaise that grips America.
To do nothing at all, as you put it, would give America the resources and time necessary to save itself from certain failure due to debt, infrastructure collapse, and social and moral bankruptcy. Staying out of other people's businesses would be the wisest move the country has made in my lifetime, but unfortunately wisdom is not something we can expect from America, just arrogance and delusion based on nothing.
Your hubristic empire is dying my friend, going the way of all empires and for the future of humanity that collapse could not come a minute too soon.

The rest of the world, especially countries like China and India, expect America to keep the Persian Gulf clear and the flow of oil unabated. How exactly do we get out of a decades long commitment to do what other countries who depend on oil from the Middle East won't do for themselves? I'd love it if Japan would start threatening Iran instead of America. We've got enough on our plate.
And the "dying empire" line is dating you moonwolf. My dad used to say that in the '60's. Sure, Rome once owned a third of the world, and Britain and Spain and the Soviets blah, blah. What have we got that compares? Guam and Puerto Rico? Please. America has never been nor will ever be a true, hardcore imperial/colonial power. Don't be such a hippy.

Don't be so naive. You should have paid more attention to your dad. Good lines never get old they just come true eventually. How's your mortgage going? Cost at the pump starting to hurt yet? Looked at your countries balance sheet of late? Maybe the state or the feds are building another prison in your back yard? The fastest growing industry in the USA, incarceration! See the homeless wandering around in your neighborhood? Noticed the drug and crime epidemic sweeping your state? A few foreclosure down there huh? Some bridges and freeways about to fall apart? Jobs tough to find unless you want to work at Walmart? Looked at how much California is on the hook for? Notice that bankruptcy might be looming over lala land?
The strait would stay open just fine without American fleets over there. Your typical American exceptionalist rational that everything would grind to a halt without your intrusion would be laughable if it wasn't so totally delusional and so very dangerous.
China and India both have pipeline and oil deals with Iran and are moving to engage with that country more. Do you think they need America to be involved? If a shooting war starts not a drop of oil will pass through the Straits and then where will they be? Nah, they want you to butt out!
