Cabbage Patch Politics: Obama and McCain Dolls for Sale on eBay
Starting Thursday, 10/30 at 9 am EST, you can bid on a unique collection of one of the most beloved toys in history - Cabbage Patch Kids® with 100 percent of the proceeds going to charity.
In honor of the upcoming 2008 Presidential election, eBay and Cabbage Patch Kids have partnered to create a special series of Obama, Palin, McCain and Biden dolls. Each is fashioned in classic ‘Kid™ style to resemble the U.S. Democratic and Republican candidates for President and Vice President. These are the only ones of their kind in existence and are available only on eBay.
"These four folks in particular seemed like the perfect candidates, if you will, to become one-of-a-kind Cabbage Patch Kids," said Jakks Pacific Inc. spokeswoman Genna Rosenberg. "We’ve had a great history with making celebrity look-alikes with these Kids. We’ve done everyone from Elvis to Donald Trump to Ellen and Oprah”.
In September, BabyLand General Hospital in Cleveland, Ga., home of Cabbage Patch, celebrated the pop culture giant’s 25th birthday.
All proceeds will benefit the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, which collects toys for needy kids.
Update Nov. 4th: Bidding has ended as the US election polls opened this morning. The Sarah Palin doll ran away with it, at $19,000., while Biden was in the bargain bin, at $3,550. The Obama and McCain dolls auctioned at $8,400. and $6,000. respectively. Quite a nice donation to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters throughout the US.
