This woman was asking for donations, but not too aggressively ... and while she definitely looked "north African," she was different from most of the other Cairo residents that I saw. I don't know if she was of Nubian descent (from southern, or "upper," Egypt), or perhaps from Algeria, Morocco, or some other African country...

After we visited the Citadel and the Alabaster mosque, we drove to the ancient bazaar of Cairo -- and spent a couple of hours walking through the crowded streets, listening to the frenzied sales pitches of merchants along the way, and stopping for lunch at a nice restaurant in the middle of the bazaar...
