Calgary Tamils protest Sri Lankan violence
Tamils once again took to the streets of Calgary to protest the Sri Lankan offensive that has left thousands dead in the last few weeks.
A group of about 20 protesters marched in the Kensington area, a follow-up to last month's protest in front of City Hall.
Vino, a Tamil community member and march co-coordinator, said the protests are an attempt to bring more awareness of the situation in Sri Lanka to Albertan's eyes, and that they hope that the Canadian government, in conjunction with the UN, will call for a cease fire in the country.
He believes, however, that the only long-lasting solution to end what he calls the genocide of Tamils would be the creation of a seperate Tamil homeland in the north of Sri Lanka.
