Yoweri Museveni, leader of Uganda, called for force measures against Al-Shaba, following the attack in Uganda as BBC reported last week. Following the call, African leader of nations agreed to increase forces in Somalia to 2000 in Submit held in Uganda this week. But could force measure destroy the terrorists and bring about long lasting solution?
In my opinion, force measures would not be the only option to eliminate terrorists. Why not peaceful means tried through diplomacy and round table discussions? Have diplomatic means ever tried with terrorist groups and suspected sponsoring governments? Does anyone know what the real mission of terrorists is?
Forceful measures can in fact be a solution if the measure can divide the terrorists and disorganize them. But is it this the strategy anti terrorist campaign is engineered? I think the current anti terrorist campaign strategy is to destroy every member of terrorist group as if every member has come from other planet. How about the families of a terrorist destroyed; cannot families of the terrorists change themselves to terrorist missionary thereby multiplying terrorists and victimizing innocents?
As to me a very sound strategy need to be developed to cease terrorism. First identify terrorist groups including sponsoring governments; then conduct a global forum on the issue, discuss openly with suspected groups about the reasons for terrorist mission and then make compromise with the demands of the terrorists. Is that not better?
