NP Rank:
Can A Leopard Change Spots? Can Obama Really Be Trusted?
Judging by last night’s debate and other recent statements, Senator Obama has reversed himself on a lifetime of positions, votes and statements to convince you that he is a fairly conservative and moderate guy who loves America, its history and its military. Only a few months ago, though, we learned he was part of a black, liberation theology church preaching hatred for America and for white people. He has thrown them under the bus now and has also: reversed himself on taxes, on saluting our flag, on respect for our military, on surveillance of terrorists, on public financing of campaigns, on Russia’s role in Georgia, on the threat that Iran poses, on gun control, on his ideas on health care – and on just about every vote he ever cast that made him the most liberal member of Congress.
While his thugs are out silencing his opponents and sliming Sarah Palin and John McCain, and those who ran against him in Illinois (and who were forced to drop out because of the dirt thrown at them) are putting their lives back together, we find that we should not worry about his close association with a domestic terrorist because “Obama was only 8 years old when Ayers was setting off bombs to kill government officials and policemen”. Let’s just look at this one aspect of his life and his lies.
In 2001, when Obama was 40 years old, this picture appeared in an article Ayers wrote stating he had “no regrets” for the bombing campaign he was part of.

"The Relationship Between Barack Obama And Bill Ayers Is Much More Extensive Than Obama's Campaign Is Willing To Admit
Obama's Top Campaign Staff Have Attempted To Downplay The Relationship Between Obama And Bill Ayers:
Obama Spokesman Robert Gibbs Said That Obama And Ayers Weren't Close And That Obama Was Only 8 Years Old When Ayers Was Bombing Buildings. Robert Gibbs: "If you read the article ... it says these two men weren't close, this man isn't involved in our campaign. Bill Ayers is somebody that Barack Obama said his actions were despicable and these happened when Barack Obama was 8 years old." (FOX News' "FOX & Friends," 10/6/08)
Gibbs Has Also Limited The Relationship Between Obama And Ayers To Serving On Two Boards Together. John Roberts: "Barack Obama knew Bill Ayers and had contact with him between 1995 and 2005. Exactly what was the nature of the relationship?" Robert Gibbs: "Well, John, as The New York Times reported this weekend, they served on two boards together during that time period." (CNN's "American Morning," 10/6/08)
Even Obama Has Previously Referred To Ayers As "A Guy Who Lives In My Neighborhood" And Not Someone He Exchanges Ideas With "On A Regular Basis." Obama: "George, but this is an example of what I'm talking about. This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who's a professor of English in Chicago who I know and who I have not received some official endorsement from. He's not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis. And the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values doesn't make much sense, George." (Sen. Barack Obama, ABC Democrat Candidates Presidential Debate, Philadelphia, PA, 4/16/08)
But Obama's Connections With Bill Ayers Are Much More Extensive Than He Or His Campaign Staff Is Willing To Admit:
In 1995, During Obama's First State Senate Campaign, William Ayers And Wife Bernadine Dohrn Hosted A Meeting Of Chicago Liberals At Their Home For Obama, Which One Attendee Said Was Aimed At "Launching Him." "In 1995, State Senator Alice Palmer introduced her chosen successor, Barack Obama, to a few of the district's influential liberals at the home of two well known figures on the local left: William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.
While Ayers and Dohrn may be thought of in Hyde Park as local activists, they're better known nationally as two of the most notorious -- and unrepentant -- figures from the violent fringe of the 1960s anti-war movement. ... 'I can remember being one of a small group of people who came to Bill Ayers' house to learn that Alice Palmer was stepping down from the senate and running for Congress,' said Dr. Quentin Young, a prominent Chicago physician and advocate for single-payer health care, of the info rmal gathering at the home of Ayers and his wife, Dohrn.
'[Palmer] identified [Obama] as her successor.' ... Dr. Young and another guest, Maria Warren, described it similarly: as an introduction to Hyde Park liberals of the handpicked successor to Palmer, a well-regarded figure on the left. 'When I first met Barack Obama, he was giving a standard, innocuous little talk in the living room of those two legends-in-their-own-minds, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn,' Warren wrote on her blog in 2005. 'They were launching him -- introducing him to the Hyde Park community as the best thing since sliced bread.'" (Ben Smith, "Obama Once Visited '60s Radicals," The Politico, 1/22/08)
From March Of 1995 Until September Of 1997, Obama And Ayers Attended At Least Seven Meetings Together Relating To The Chicago Annenberg Challenge. (Chicago Annenberg Challenge, Board Of Directors Meeting, Minutes Of The Board, 3/15/95, 3/31/95, 4/13/95, 6/5/95, 9/30/97; National Annenberg Challenge Evaluation Meeting, List Of Participants, 5/24/95; Chicago Annenberg Challenge, Chicago School Reform Collaborative Meeting, Minutes, 10/23/96)
• NOTE: Bill Ayers Was Asked To Help Obama Formulate The Chicago Annenberg Challenge By-Laws. (Chicago Annenberg Challenge Board Of Directors Minutes, 3/15/95)
In 1997, Obama Praised Ayers' Book On The Juvenile Justice System. "The two men were involved in efforts to reform the city's education system. They appeared together on academic panels, including one organized by Michelle Obama to discuss the juvenile justice system, an area of mutual concern. Mr. Ayers's book on the subject won a rave review in The Chicago Tribune by Mr. Obama, who called it 'a searing and timely account.'" From 1999 To 2002, Obama Served With Ayers On The Board Of Directors For Woods Fund Of Chicago. "[Ayers] served with [Obama] from 1999 to 2002 on the board of the Woods Fund, an anti-poverty group." (Timothy J. Burger, "Obama's Chicago Ties Might Fuel 'Republican Attack Machine'," Bloomberg, 2/15/08)

TERROR VICTIM'S QS FOR BARACK
By MAGGIE GALLAGHER
October 8, 2008 New York Post (Excerpt)
"WHEN John Murtagh was 9 years old, Bill Ayers' friends tried to kill him.
"I remember my mother's pulling me from the tangle of sheets and running to the kitchen where my father stood. Through the large windows overlooking the yard, all we could see was the bright glow of flames below. We didn't leave our burning house for fear of who might be waiting outside," wrote Murtagh recently in City Journal.
It wasn't personal. John's dad was a judge presiding over a trial of some Black Panthers. John still remembers the red graffiti on the sidewalk the next morning: "Free the Panther 21; The Viet Cong Have Won; Kill the Pigs."
As best he recalls, Bernardine Dohrn, who's now Ayers' wife, first claimed credit for bombing John's home in 1970.
John Murtagh is a now lawyer and Yonkers city councilman running for the state Senate on the GOP ticket. I reached him this week through his campaign. It wasn't hard.
Has Barack Obama ever tried?" New Yorl Post

An article from the StarTribune.com reveals:
Texas billionaire Harold Simmons, a major backer of Republican John McCain's presidential campaign and Swift Boat Veterans for Truth four years ago, is the sole donor to an advertisement attacking Democrat Barack Obama over his relationship with one-time radical activist William Ayers.
A campaign finance filing shows Simmons donated the entire $2.8 million being spent by a new group, American Issues Project, to air the commercials in Ohio and Michigan next week.
The article further states:
In April, Obama said that he "deplored" Ayers' actions in the 1960s and that "by the time I met him, he is a professor of education at the University of Illinois."
Among the Ayers-Obama ties, the two served together on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a nonprofit educational reform organization. (Its records will be made available to the public Tuesday, the University of Illinois said Friday.) They also served together on the board of the Woods Fund, a Chicago-based charity.

I would not allow someone like Ayers in my house. Your comment about Harold Simmons is a 'baiting' comment having absolutely nothing to do with the issue.
at 09:45 on October 8th, 2008
The statement about billionaire Harold Simmons is from an article, not my comment.
Identifying the individual who is responsible for the chosen topic being rehashed by the McCain-Palin ticket, to deflect discussion from the economy, health care, education and other issues, is relevant.
At a time when, as is known and being reported by news agencies, at a McCain-Palin rally, featuring Governor Sarah Palin, someone is heard yelling, "Kill him!", as Governor Palin misstates the relationship between William Ayers and Senator Obama, your commentary, distorting facts regarding Senator Obama, stating:
.... we learned he was part of a black, liberation theology church preaching hatred for America and for white people....
.... is irresponsible and incendiary.
at 09:53 on October 8th, 2008
The truth often hurts. Blaming white America for AIDS, getting even with whitey and wresting reparations is exactly what your man, Obama, sat, listened to, and obviously approved of until the heat turned up, and he dumped them to save his candidacy.
at 10:27 on October 8th, 2008
There is no truth in stating that anyone spoke of a collective hatred of White people nor does this comment detract from your commentary's irresponsible and incendiary nature.
From the Newyorktimes.com:
It is a sorry fact of American political life that campaigns get ugly, often in their final weeks. But Senator John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin have been running one of the most appalling campaigns we can remember.
They have gone far beyond the usual fare of quotes taken out of context and distortions of an opponent’s record — into the dark territory of race-baiting and xenophobia. Senator Barack Obama has taken some cheap shots at Mr. McCain, but there is no comparison.
Despite the occasional slip (referring to Mr. Obama’s “cronies” and calling him “that one”), Mr. McCain tried to take a higher road in Tuesday night’s presidential debate. It was hard to keep track of the number of times he referred to his audience as “my friends.” But apart from promising to buy up troubled mortgages as president, he offered no real answers for how he plans to solve the country’s deep economic crisis. He is unable or unwilling to admit that the Republican assault on regulation was to blame.
Ninety minutes of forced cordiality did not erase the dismal ugliness of his campaign in recent weeks, nor did it leave us with much hope that he would not just return to the same dismal ugliness on Wednesday.
Ms. Palin, in particular, revels in the attack. Her campaign rallies have become spectacles of anger and insult. “This is not a man who sees America as you see it and how I see America,” Ms. Palin has taken to saying.
That line follows passages in Ms. Palin’s new stump speech in which she twists Mr. Obama’s ill-advised but fleeting and long-past association with William Ayers, founder of the Weather Underground and confessed bomber. By the time she’s done, she implies that Mr. Obama is right now a close friend of Mr. Ayers — and sympathetic to the violent overthrow of the government. The Democrat, she says, “sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.”
Her demagoguery has elicited some frightening, intolerable responses. A recent Washington Post report said at a rally in Florida this week a man yelled “kill him!” as Ms. Palin delivered that line and others shouted epithets at an African-American member of a TV crew.
Hopefully, the governor will see this and read it when she's reading the Times and pass it on for Senator McCain to read.

Thanks for the flag, Rene, but I don't think that's a leopard.

Black leopard. Look closely, you can see the spots. Sometimes called black panther.

I was a college professor for many years. I had hundreds of arguments with liberal professors. For a time I thought we were having differences of opinion about what was best for America until I discovered many of them hated America (as zichi has admitted he does), and really wanted to impose policies that would humiliate us and bring us down. That they would then lose the protection for their rights and their prosperous positions did not seem to occur to them.

Joellerose,
Yah sure you were! College perfesser, right! LOL!

moonwolf, please don't make taunting, off comments like that.

amy,
Sorry, but muzzle Joellerose and we'll all stop.
at 10:02 on October 8th, 2008
zichi, I do owe you an apology; I had you confused with djermo, who made such a statement. I can only infer that you hate American from the tone of most of your posts and comments.
at 10:35 on October 8th, 2008
I would also request that you have the good grace and manners to apologise properly to Zichi on this post in public, rather than offer a response that many will still find offensive.
This may be a little "off-subject" and result in my comment being relayed to the forum instead. But decent behaviour and respect for others compel me to appeal to you to do the honourable thing.
at 10:47 on October 8th, 2008
As Amy states, whether you believed incorrectly you were responding to Djermano or Zichi, is not the issue.
Any who post here should have the skills to disagree with those who disagree with them in a respectful manner, avoiding sweeping, dismissive, slanderous and personal statements.
Zichi has never stated he hated America nor have I read anything posted by anyone at this site articulating such a statement.
at 11:41 on October 8th, 2008
You still owe Zichi an apology. A real apology is called for - not a McCain "quip-flop" - a real apology.
at 10:08 on October 8th, 2008
Whether you had confused djermo with zichi or not, a comment like that is still a personal slander and something our wranglers have agreed not to do when they signed up to be a wrangler.

Just look at how is training job at ACORN has worked out.

joellerose, I like this story. It's good stuff.
at 10:56 on October 8th, 2008
Adapted from FightTheSmears.com:
Barack Obama was never an ACORN community organizer.
Barack Obama was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.
ACORN was not part of Project Vote, the successful voter registration drive Barack ran in 1992.
In his capacity as an attorney, Barack represented ACORN in a successful lawsuit alongside (Note the entity joining the suit: my emphasis) the U.S. Department of Justice against the state of Illinois to force state compliance with a federal voting access law. For his work helping enforce the law, called “Motor Voter,” Barack received the IVI-IPO Legal Eagle Award in 1995.

joellerose, I like this story. It's good stuff. You know a person by who he/she surrounds themselves with. Here is an interesting question, why is Obama hiding his Thesis? I thought they were public record. Where is all the good work he wrote at the Harvard law review? Oh it was one article. What community did Obama organize? Who paid for his education? Who helped him buy his home. Who contributed the most money to his campains? the answers to those questions will tell much about who Obama is and what his agenda will be for America.
at 11:20 on October 8th, 2008
joellerose, I like this story. It's good stuff.
No doubt a new dance will soon be introduced -- "Doin' the Obama" -- the steps are easy (to the '50's tune "Flip-Flopping-Fly"), baritone voice required. If, anyone at this point in the campaign still believes anything that comes from the mouth of the disingenuous Senator from Illinois -- Barack "Hussein" Obama -- then I hope you have a conscience that will support you in the next 4-years (and beyond) -- "IF" -- he is elected to the highest office of the land.
This guy has a hard time with the TRUTH and who he's ASSOCIATED with in the past. At one point refusing to wear a “U.S. flag pin” in his label (flip-flop, “ok, gotta’ look patriotic”); or, show respect to his nations colors, or pledge of allegiance (flip-flop, “gotta’ fool these fools”); and he sat in his church pews "applauding, singing, and chanting" while listening to the vile remarks and statements made by his pastor (flip-flop, "gotta' get me a new holy man!"); and, his association with William Ayer's, where he announces his candidacy for the Illinois Senate from the living room of a known "terrorist" while trying to duck the incident, saying "he's just someone who lives in the neighborhood" (gotta' “flip-flop that dude). “But me and my bud Ahmadinejad (pronounced I’m-‘a-MAD-jihad), “We’ll be tight once I’m the Prez, now that’s change you’ll believe in – “Trust Me!”
The words "Trust Me" are hollow coming from you Barack “Hussein” Obama, as trust is something you earn and you have NOT earned mine, nor do I consider you worthy of the office which you seek. Hopefully, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />America comes to its senses before November 4th, and takes a real good look and listen, before considering this guy for the highest office of the land.

How hollow those words are when you consider John "Songbird" McCain cooperated with the North Vietnamese during his "heroic" time as a POW.
