For Now Public Readers, I have some knowledge of this case. This person has many strikes against him, fraud using a forged passport, soon marrying a lovelorn French Canadian woman, some say was duped in order for him to stay in Canada through marriage. I will report the facts, and Now Public readers can make their own judgements.
It is a slap in the face of all Canadians, when this accused Terrorist, does not feel he has enough Canadian taxpayer funded legal help, demanding this public legal team to hire more lawyers and support staff after he most likely was not satisfied with their defence and is look for a more expensive and expanded legal team, hoping they will come up with a better defence, but this expensive legal team comes with a price, a Canadian Taxpayer Price who se Defence team request more Money per hour to pay for his defence. As far as I am concerned Lawyers Milking an otherwise "Open and Shut Case" should not take the case if they are not satisfied with the Fee.
For example another Canadian Funded Court case, The Air India Bombing over the coast of Ireland in the mid 1980's is still ongoing in Canadian Courts, as the Terrorists who took a big part in the bombing were East Indian Terrorists operating in British Columbia. This case has been ongoing for close to 25 years, certainly a travesty costing millions and millions of taxpayer dollars paid to legal defence lawyers, and a case today which is no closer to conclusion or concrete answers than it was in the mid 1980s.
If it were up to me, I would inform Mr. Harkat to contact al Qaeda and Bin Laden to ante up the cash to pay his lawyers, because ordinary Canadians do not have the luxury of a more expensive defence team as he wishes to assemble.
Background on Harkat
Mohamed Harkat an Algerian refugee, Harkat arrived in Toronto in September 1995 via Malaysia, using a fraudulent Saudi Passport, he was granted refugee status.
Harkat worked a series of menial jobs such as gas station attendant and a Pizza deliveryman, in Ottawa he met and soon married Canadian Citizen Sophie Lamarche.
Soon after he was granted Permanent Resident status. This ploy, according to many, was his Ticket to Canada to permanently keep his foot into Canada , as anyone knows, Devout Muslims who attend the Mosque daily, such as Harkat, usually marry into their own faith, and if not, do not rush into quickie marriages to older Canadian women and non virgins at that as non virgins are not at the top of their list of desirable mates.
CSBA certainly saw through the scam which is the norm in most countries where many terrorists use marriage to a countries born citizens in order to remain in that country. Later through interrogation of another Terrorist, Harkat's name was given up and Harkat was arrested by local and RCMP officers on December 10, 2002

"Ottawa resident Mohamed Harkat was a member of Al Gamaa al Islamiya, the Egyptian terrorist group headed by the “blind sheikh” Omar Abdel Rahman and responsible for the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Centre in New York. In 1998, Harkat was heard (On Tape) saying that he had received his Canadian immigration “status” and would soon be “ready” to take part in jihad."
For Now Public readers who may not be privy to this trial or the background behind accused Terrorist Harkat. I encourage you to do your own research to come up with your own conclusions. Being apprised to his past, my mind is already made up, as you can all surmise.
Ottawa terror suspect Mohamed Harkat has chosen a new team of lawyers.
But whether or not Ottawa defence lawyers Matthew Webber and Norman Boxall will represent Harkat will be contingent on the outcome of a funding application going before the Federal Court on July 2 and 3, which attempts to have the federal government assume responsibility for paying their wages.
Currently, the defence lawyers representing the Alergian national would be paid through the Ontario legal aid plan at a maximum rate of $92 an hour.
Those who have been appointed to special advocate status receive about $275 an hour from the federal government.
DON'T COVER OVERHEAD The lawyers say the legal aid rate doesn't cover their overhead costs and isn't fair compensation for the amount of work they are required to do with such a landmark case. "I think it's an important thing to do and I would love to do the case, but I want to be paid to do the case," says Boxall.

Such egregious disinformation and mindless parroting of right wing talking points, steeped in typical racist and anti-muslim sentiment.
One wonders how you would respond if the accused (remember that CSIS has accusations only; no proof, no evidence & no criminal charges) was white and christian. Or if he were a loved one of yours.
Does the unanimous decision of the Supreme Court of Canada that found security certificates unconstitutional carry no weight at all with you?
Since you seem most concerned about tax payers dollars you really should support the following demands of The Justice for Mohamed Harkat Committee (I know you're familiar with it since you stole the above copyrighted image from its Web site.) These demands, if implemented, should save Canadian taxpayers millions:
We call upon the Minister of Public Safety and the Minister of Immigration for:
-A withdrawal of the currently issued illegal certificates without delay;
- The immediate and unconditional release of the detainees currently in jail and under house arrest, or their fair trial if any evidence actually exists against them;
- An end to all deportation proceedings against all currently held under security certificates;
- The cessation of any and all practices of deporting, or seeking to deport, people to countries where they will be imprisoned or tortured or face death, and
- The closing of the Kingston Immigration Holding Centre.

Yeah, well that may be, but ya know someone who comes to Canada under false pretenses broke our laws right off the bat, Soooooooooooo, right there strike one~! Drastic times, call for drastic measures.
Nothing racist about it, if you can't come to Canada honestly, you can't come here at all, and if you do come here fraudulently expect to be detained and questioned why you had to come here under false pretenses? There are thousands of other families who wait years to immigrate to Canada, and when one butts to the front of the line, that in part may place others in more dire need in harms way from another brutal regime. But then lefty fart tasters such as yourself don't see this, only the Asshole in front of your nose. So take a big whiff and ask yourself this?.. Why Canada? Why not another Middle Eastern Country to immigrate to? Persecution is such an easy ploy used by many as a ruse to come here. As for me, I do not buy his story, and obviously the Canadian Public and the Government aint buying it either.

Immediately after arriving in Canada, he took a bus to Ottawa, where he had been told he would most successfully be able to launch a refugee claim.
