Much like Environmentalist Dr. David Suzuki lambasting the Conservative Government over it's Environmental Policies.

Environmentalist David Suzuki went on a Cross Country, town to town tour in a older Diesel Spewing 50 passenger Tour Bus, in which a conventional passenger van would have sufficed considering Dr. Suzuki traveled with only a handful of staff.

Liberal Leader Stephane Dion and his Green Shift plan, also smacked of hypocrisy or "do as I say and not as I do", when Dion and his political wonks took to the skies of the Great White North.

Dion not  only took his first Environmental step in a modern fuel efficient and clean burning jet, but in a polluting aging 20 year old jet.

Now, though Dion upon arriving at the airport on the other hand could be forgiven this Faux Pas, as it clearly shows Environmentalism is not Dion's Thing.

Environmentalist Dr. David Suzuki was clearly aware of his Faux Pas.

So I guess the Election Gloves are off, as a Tit for Tat war will be a brewing, with Political Parties all trying to show their Environmentalism in their glad handing travels.

One wonders who will be the first to use a Horse and Buggy to get around, though I would not put it past NDP Layton to use a Bicycle built for two.

Though I surmise NDP Jack Layton wishes to portray a more Edgy Rock Star look, taking a page from the Obama Book, may opt for Black Leather togs to go with his Party's new persona.

Perhaps  Conservative Stephen Harper and Liberal Stephane Dion, and Fringe Candidate Green Party Leader Elizabeth May will now have to do the same.  As my photo attest who will be the more environmentally of the bunch and to see who can leave the least Carbon Footprint.

My related story yesterday on Politicians try to Rock out their Image as well to get the youth vote, certainly shows Politicians will do anything to take a page out of the Obama Rock Star playbook.

Election foes rip Dion's dirty jet Other parties lambaste Grit leader for pollution-spewing campaign plane

By PETER ZIMONJIC, NATIONAL BUREAU

Liberal Leader Stephane Dion is under fire for chartering a 29-year-old, pollution-spewing jet to criss-cross the country campaigning on his Green Shift plan.

After Sun Media revealed Dion's last minute charter with Air Inuit yesterday, Conservative MP Jason Kenney accused Dion of failing to live up to his green credentials by chartering an aging aircraft that is 35% dirtier than the Conservative or NDP jets.

'HYPOCRISY' "Dion is prepared to lecture Canadians about the environment but he won't walk the talk," said Kenney. "He's using the dirtiest, least environmentally friendly campaign plane of any party underscoring his own hypocrisy on the environment."

Dion has made his Green Shift, which seeks to impose a carbon tax on individuals and businesses who pollute in exchange for a series of tax cuts and tax credits, the central plank of his election campaign.

READY FOR MONTHS While the NDP and the Conservative parties have had their modern Air Canada Airbus jets at the ready for months, the Liberals only secured their jet in the last week.

The Boeing 737 Dion chartered from Air Inuit is a 29-year-old former cargo plane that first flew for a courier company before being sold to the Saudi state-owned oil company Aramco, which used the jet for more than 20 years before selling it to a low-cost passenger airline which then sold it to Air Inuit, based in Montreal.

The jet is now mostly chartered from Air Inuit by the federal government to evacuate first nations communities in the far north.

Today the campaigns kick into high gear after an early morning visit by Prime Minister Stephen Harper to Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean, at which he will ask her to formally dissolve Parliament.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff.

I wouldn't use the phrase "won't walk the talk." Instead try "do the heavy lifting" to capture the sense that it takes more than just an ad agency to be a good statesman. Thanks for turning us on to this image over essense politician.

Thanks Mikasi, certainly Politicians trying to find their niche in the election to get the youth vote, cause let's face it, they are more in tune with the Environment versus all the above Politicians who never gave it a second thought until it became an election issue.

My related story I did yesterday on Political Parties (NDP) trying to Groove Up their Image for the Youth vote, is another venture into Hilarity.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff. Jack Layton will probably never get the youth vote, he's what's wrong with their party. Dion is an idiot who thinks carbon tax is the way to go and Harper's a nancy. the devil you know i guess. because the day i start paying carbon tax is they day i start looking for someplace else to live.

Harper is a donut-stuffed pudding boy, Dion is a weasly French academic, and Layton, well, Layton is a drunk. None of them comes close to past politicians, in either capability or accomplishments. Young people can see that they are just running on the fumes of past policy and accomplishments, and of course, on the steady flow of pay cheques from the Canadian government.

Dion will tour Quebec and Ontario by bus. And it all depends on the total mileage they travel by plane during the campaign.

Not sure why you're mentioning David Suzuki here. My understanding is that this was the only option could afford which is a sign of how bad their fundraising is not his stand on the environment. The fact is that using a plane is the only way all of the parties can cross the country.

For your next post why don't you focus on Harper's anti-environmental policies, his do nothing approach to solving our economic problems and his slash and spend (slash taxes and blow spending through the roof) style of government. You need only look south of the border to see where we're headed.

Thanks Fred, Luis, Terri, Kferday, Solar and Emilio for your comments and flags, certainly Fred I would hope Dion and the rest of the Political parties would tour by bus in the Big Vote provinces of Quebec and Ontario, from media reports Dion is not very popular in both provinces.  The reason why I draw a comparison Kferday between Dion and Suzuki is this, Dion may not have realised his gaffe, but certainly Suzuki should have, both profess to be ardent environmentalist, both blast the Conservatives for their  environmentalism record, cause let's face that is all they could attack them on, yet under liberal rule for a decade or so, they did nothing, Kyoto was a bust even among Liberals, it was to be Chretien's legacy, and we all know what Canadian thought about that one, they turfed the Liberals out of office. The liberals only went Green until it became a popular vote getter. As for who I would listen to on the Environment, though he gaffed it would be Suzuki. Parties that vouch environmentalism, better fly environmentally is all I am saying, otherwise they look like hypocrites.

Solar I am sure if a politician of any stripe showed up in that Bizarre three wheeler, they would get most of our votes, just for being unique.

Kferday, you state Harper caused our economic problems and his slash and spend (slash taxes and blow spending through the roof) style of government. Really? I would be more than interested as the rest of us here to see any proof of this, as memory serves, Harper has always been a model of fiscal responsibility.  Hence our booming economy, strong dollar, and lower deficits.  So please provide some proof and I will surely print it on your behalf.  Kferday, the ball is in your court and I await with baited breath.

The past budget was the largest in Canadian history. Maureen Bader of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation reported today that the most recent Conservative budget promised to increase spending by 3.4% but spending has actually risen by over 8 percent. I've seen other estimates at closer to 11%. That includes $8.8 billion in announcement over the past three months to buy votes. Now the Conservatives aren't the first government to use this tactic but combined with the fact that they've significantly reduced taxes and we're in an economic slowdown there is now the real risk of the federal government going into deficit. All of this under Harpers watch.

I don't know where you get the impression that the economy is booming. Here in B.C. the forest sector has had a terrible year and the real estate market is in decline. In Ontario the manufacturing sector has been gutted and all we got from Harper and Flaherty until this week's bribe was to insult the premier of Ontario. While we're not technically in a recession with a meager 0.3 percent growth in the second quarter and a decline of 0.8 percent in the first quarter (worse than the U.S. by the way) we're pretty close. Combine that with a significant decline in job growth and the horrible week on the TSX last week. If that's what you call a "booming economy" I'd hate to see what you think a bad one is.

So Harper is not the model of fiscal responsibility far from it. I really don't think he knows what he's doing with the economy. His GST cuts are just one example. No surprise since he put Flaherty in charge and we know what bad shape Flaherty, Harris, Baird etc. left Ontario in before Ontarians decided they'd had enough of the "Common Sense Revolution".

There you go so now you can scream it from the rooftops.
