This is a good development.
Canada does not need another
election now. They need a
stable government to deal with
the economy.
Canada’s opposition Liberals, which hold the balance of power in Parliament, agreed to support Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s budget on the condition the government agrees to regular progress reports on the plan.
Liberal Party leader Michael Ignatieff told reporters in Ottawa he will seek to amend the budget motion to require the government to make three regular reports on its progress -- the first in March. Each of these reports would determine whether the Liberals will continue to support the government.

"We are putting this government on probation," Ignatieff said, referring to his amendment that the Tories provide frequent updates on the budget's implementation. "... should Mr. Harper fail to satisfy the expectations of Canadians, we will be ready to defeat him and lead in his place." CTV link.

Thanks for adding that.
But if Harper is defeated the Liberals will still not have enough votes to lead so there will be another election.
