Corporal Martin Dube, of Valcartier, Quebec was killed in Southern Afghanistan this Sunday.  He was trying to defuse an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). 

Cpl Marin Dube, 35, was a member of  5 Combat Engineer Regiment based in  Valcartier, Quebec, near Quebec City.

An Afghanistan was also killed and an interpretor seriously injured. The incident happened at 12:30 pm local time about 20 kilometres South of Khandahar.

Brigadier General Vance said that Dube saved many lifes with his work.

This was the second death in a week.  Pte Peloquin was killed last Monday stepping on an IED.

A Canadian soldier was killed in southern Afghanistan on Sunday when an improvised explosive device he was trying to defuse exploded, the military said.

Cpl. Martin Dubé, 35, was a combat engineer from the 5 Combat Engineer Regiment based at Canadian Forces Base Valcartier, near Quebec City.

An Afghan police officer was also killed and an Afghan interpreter was seriously injured in the explosion, which occurred about 20 kilometres southwest of Kandahar City at 12:30 p.m. local time, the military said.
