Canadian Soldier killed - IED Strike, 11 Injured

Private Jonathan Couturier was killed by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) in Afghanistan on Thursday. 11 others were injured.

Jonathan Couturier, 23, is a member of the Royal 22e Regiment based in Valcartier, Quebec. He is the fourth Canadian solider killed this month and the 131st since 2002.

Brigadier General Jonathan Vance, said that the vehicle Couturier was travelling in was struck by an IED at 10:15 am local time yesterday. The incident occurred 25 kilometers southwest of Khandahar City, in Panjwaii District.

A Canadian soldier was killed Thursday in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device.

The blast injured 11 other soldiers. The slain soldier was identified as Pte. Jonathan Couturier of the 2nd Battalion, Royal 22nd Regiment, based in Valcartier, Que.

Couturier, 23, is the 131st Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan since 2002. He is also the fourth soldier killed in September.

Brig.-Gen. Jonathan Vance said a Canadian armoured vehicle struck an IED at 10:15 a.m. local time roughly 25 kilometres southwest of Kandahar city in Panjwaii district.
