Canadian Student Foils Attack of U.K. School
Montreal's Concordia University student J.P. Neufeld was browsing the forum of technology website newgrounds.com on Tuesday when he came across the first of a string of alarming threads, along with a picture of a gas can.
It read: "Today at 11:30 GMT I will attack my school with arson and other forms of violence. Those bastards will pay."
Neufeld, a Winnipeg native, quickly phoned local authorities via internet telephone service and alerted them to this threat.
The Norfolk Constabulary in the U.K. said in a media statement that a 16-year-old male student was taken into custody at Attleborough High School after he was found with a knife, matches and a canister containing a flammable liquid.
Last night the boy was detained under the mental health act. A spokesman said: “Police investigations into this incident will continue.” Officers yesterday praised the actions of the chat room users, which enabled Attleborough High staff and officers to act quickly.
"It goes to show that things written on the internet can be viewed across the world and we thank the person who has read this and done something about it," said Supt. Katie Elliott, of Norfolk police's Breckland division.

Wow, great story. Just goes to show the power of the internet--good thing this was reported and didn't turn into another Virginia Tech situation!
