The creation of a Community of Latin American and Caribbean States is an important move approved at a meeting  held in CancĂșn, MĂ©xico, by the presidents and representatives of 32 countries of the area.

Towards a higher integration and unit of the region, the Community has a great challenge to define the new form of association and operation in order to accomplish collective interests. Next Summit will take place in Caracas in 2011, time to start the Union as well, after the preparatory works conducted by Venezuela.

The new regional organism approved at the Cancun Summit was provisionally named Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, it gathers 32 nations from the area, without USA and Canada. It will be a group for the high-level political dialogue, the promotion of the principles of international right, equality between States and also look for the political integration of the region as well as the dialogue with other blocks of countries.

A NEW REQUEST TO LIFT THE US EMBARGO TO CUBA

The Summit of Cancun, Mexico, rejected strongly the US blockade against Cuba and demanded Washington to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial fence against the Caribbean Island.

A declaration reminds that blockade and the application of extraterritorial laws such as the Helms-Burton Act are contrary to the International Right, cause substantial and unjustifiable damages to Cuban people and affect peace and coexistence among the American nations. Since 1991, the United Nations General Assambly has condemned that unjust blockade and last year 187 countries demanded the inmediate end.
