Canopy of Splendor

In the center of St. Peter's Basilica stands the seven-story bronze canopy, designed and built by Bernini in the 17th century. It monumentally marks the main altar, where the tomb of Saint Peter, apostle of Christ and the first bishop of Rome, lies underneath.
