Carlos Ovalle Convicted for Beating Girlfriend with Crucifix

Carlos Ovalle has been convicted for beating his estranged girlfriend, whose name has not been released, with an 18-pound crucifix that was hanging on the wall of an apartment. He has been convicted for attempted murder after he broke in to her apartment in December and beat her about 20 times with the object.
He was also convicted the day before of burglary, stalking and violating a protective order twice.
Police say Ovalle broke into the woman's apartment in December and jumped out of a closet when she came home, trying to stab and strangle her.
His girlfriend managed to buy herself some time by asking his to put on a DVD for her daughters in the other room. After the beating started a police officer broke down the door and shot Ovalle twice, one bullet hit his girlfriend but she is ok.
Ovalle will be sentenced on October 6th.
