Carter Livingston Faces a Charge of Felony Animal Cruelty After Another Video Showing Extreme Animal Cruelty Appears Online

The 19-year-old posted a video of himself on his Facebook account hacking an opossum to death with a meat cleaver. L.A. NOW reports that he struck the animal 44 times.

He now faces charges by the Nevada County district attorney after the investigation was launched by the San Diego Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Carter Livingston now lives in Auburn California.

Someone allegedly saw the video posted on his Facebook page and complained to the San Diego Humane Society.

The case was taken up by Nevada County officials after it was determined that Livingston had moved there from Vista, officials said.

This is the third case in recent weeks of someone performing an act of cruelty on an animal and it turning up on the Internet.

The girl throwing six puppies in a river has not yet been identified, while Mary Bale has come forward to apologize for placing a cat in a wheelie bin that was left in there for 15 hours.

"If possible, trap 'possum and feed it on milk and cereals for 10 days before killing. Clean, but do not skin. Treat as for pig by immersing the unskinned animal in water just below the boiling point. Test frequently by plucking at the hair. When it slips out readily, remove the possum from the water and scrape. While scraping repeadedly, pour cool water over the surface of the animal. Remove small red glands in small of back and under each foreleg between shoulder and rib. Parboil... 1 hour. Roast as for pork, page 421."*"

Yankee Jim, your attempt at humor falls short. I am an actual, real hunter and resident of a rural northern area. This kid is going to roast in the afterlife. REAL hunters and rural people don't slowly hack trapped animals to death. An actual hunter values a quick, clean kill. Anyone defending this kid should be ashamed of themselves. He's literally a psycho and will pay dearly for his crime.

Sir, You are an idiot! You have no idea who this kid is or the circumstances. Your rush to judgement is absurd.Do you really think that justice would be served to ruin this young mans life for one stupid act.I completely agree this was a series of bad decisions, however it is a sad state when our government is willing to put a young man in jail for doing something stupid. If that was the case most  of our politicians would be right there with him.Maybe we should file charges against the oppossum parents for letting the oppossum run around with no parental control. So,you all mighty hunter, maybe your quick kill would have been a better alternative, maybe we could just put this young man in front of  firing squad and you could do the right thing and kill him quickly instead of putting him in jail ,where he can make some new boyfriends and maybe come out a changed person (if you know what I mean}.

I know what you mean.  What you mean is this. Let this young man who shows actual documented sighs of becomming a fullblown serial killer go, without any legal documentation of his past.  Then when he gets caught for killing humans he will get a couple of slaps on the hand because it will be considered his first and only act and the legal system should go light on him because maybe he just snapped.

One stupid act?  Wanna bet this is "act" 100 or so and this is the first one he was stupid enough to video? As far as ruining his life over it?  Absolutely...

Carter Livingston should be treated the same way he treated that possum.

Well, no, a person might actually have a chance to fight back and survive, haley.  Of course he would never hurt a person.

What "circumstances"?  Was the possum chasing him?  Threatening him?  44 times?  Not only is he incredibly stupid, he's a sadist.   Has anyone tested his IQ?  Sounds like he might be borderline.. so this kind of wouldn't be totally his fault.

Carter Livingston has grown up with great parents and family, surrounded by good morals and values. To form an opinion of Carter's character based off of only biased information is a sign of a lack of intelligence. One should not judge Carter without knowing the cold hard facts, as well as, the circumstances. This one action should not be a judgement of the good that Carter has done and will do. I stand by Carter and his character, knowing him and what a good, kind hearted young man he truly is, not the heartless, animal abuser he has been made out to be.

Really simple.  Fine he grew up in a really great family.  Then that just means he is a sociopath and we should always worry about unsupervised sociopaths.  Maybe his family already knows this and did the best they could in which case they would admit to it and prove that they got him help when this first started. OR. They tried to hide it and now that he is an adult that is just harder to do.  Maybe, what you've seen outside of the house is not what is really going on inside of the house.  Maybe you don't really know him either.  Step back and think about what kind of sick people do these kinds of things and if it wasn't your friend how strongly you would be trying to reach out and defend him. IF HE WERE JUST A STRANGER WHO DID A VERY SICK SOCIOPATHIC ACT.

Hurting animals isn't something that you do.  It is something that you are.

Supporters of Carter Livingston  keep referring to the hacking of the possum as a "stupid act" along with "This one action should not be a judgement of the good that Carter has done and will do."

Actually it was the 44 actions along with a posted video of this sadistic attack on a possum.  Just because a person is "caught once" doesn't mean it's the 1st time they have done something like this.

I have a hard time especially with this person being an Eagle Scout:

The first obligation of an Eagle Scout is Honor. The white in the Eagle Badge represents honor, and it is the sacred foundation of his character. Character is not what you think of yourself, Carter Livingston , but what you are, deep inside. It is what you do to reflect credit upon your home, family, church, school, friends, and yourself. Always let the white of the badge remind you to live with honor.

Where was your honor that day, young man?

The support for this jerk is amazing.  "Good family", "brought up w/morals and values", etc.  Wake up and call it what it is; a cruel, disgusting spectacle done by a very, very sick young man.  There are no excuses and this loser deserves jail time and mental health help.  This is one sick cookie.P.S.  Learn the difference between a hunter and an animal abuser.

Sounds like borderline IQ case to me ... have they tested him?

We don't have to kill everything that bothers us.
