Like these two men banking at an RBS machine, shareholders have been cashing out their shares in January, 2009, for fears of the collapse of RBS.
I own 500 shares of RBS, bought after the onset of the global economic recession in 2008. I paid about £ 1,800 in 2008 at what I thought was a bargain. Boy did I learn a lesson! The shares are now worth £ 260. In my mind I wrote off the investment speculation already. It would be years before I'd recover my cost, that is assuming RBS doesn't get nationalised completely.
On 2009-01-19, shares of RBS fell to GBP £ 0.116 per share (Eur 0.13, USD $0.16). There were rumours of RBS being nationalised / nationalised completely.
