Wikileaks Guantanamo Files: Terrorists Wear Casio F-91W Digital Watches

According to the US Government,  you can tell an al-Qaeda operative by his watch. US spooks will raise an eyebrow if they see you wearing a Casio F91-W. These watches are apparently handed out to al-Qaeda recruits when they learn how to make IEDs.

You know where else you can get them? Everywhere. The Casio F-91W has to be the most popular digital watch in the world. They're cheap and easy to find.  It was probably your kid's first wristwatch, since it didn't matter if he or she destroyed it.

The Casio F-91W watch costs around $10. It's been around since 1991, and can be purchased all over the world. The Gitmo Files reveal that 1/3 of detainees who actually have a connection with terrorism were wearing an F-91W.  That statistic would be more significant if the watch were more rare: in the developing world, Rolex just doesn't have the same market reach. I'm guessing that 100% of the detainees were wearing trousers, too.
