Witness: Airliner in Iran 'Fell Out of the Sky'

A Caspian Airlines Tu-154 airplane has crashed in Iran, taking the lives of 168 passengers. The Tupolev 154 aircraft crashed 16 minutes after taking off from Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport, smashing into a field near the village of Jannat Abad outside the city of Qazvin. The impact of the crash was so powerful that wreckage was spread over a 200-meter area.

The vast majority of the passengers on the Tupelov jet were Iranian nationals. Six Armenian citizens and two Georgian citizens were also on board. A cause for the Iran plane crash has yet to be determined, although some reports indicate that the plane may have caught fire.

The Caspian Airlines TU-154 crash is the worst air disaster in Iran in six years.

Here is some background on the Tupelov 154.
