Modern society needs modern institutions like democratic government to protect the rights of all people. This story illustrates the point. Why should there be “progressive” and regressive Catholics. If they can’t support social justice, what good are churches?

“Catholics fight move to deny schooling to children of lesbians, gays

By Dan Gilgoff, CNN CNN) -- Progressive Catholic groups vented outrage Friday over the decision of a Roman Catholic school in Massachusetts to rescind the admission of an 8-year-old student because his parents are lesbians.

"The idea that a child might be punished because he does not live with his two biologic parents is antithetical to notions of Christian charity and Catholic social justice," said Patrick Whelan, president of Catholic Democrats, in a statement Friday.”

I disagree Jim, the "Church of Elvis" in Portland, Oregon, is alive and well, Bell Bottoms and all.

Religions are obsolete, this is true to certain extent. But for God's sake don't democratise religions because democracy is obsolete like all other forms of government. Thus two wrongs, obsolete religions and obsolete democracy, won't make one right.

I think the Catholic Church should deny priesthood to pedophiles that creep around the church destroying childrens' lives! How can you criticize any given group of people when you can't even control your own priests? This is utterly obsurd indeed.

Thank you for that comment.

Maybe we should define religion a little more loosely.  Regligion could be following a particular philosophy.  By the way, the picture is great -- love those red Prada shoes.

There is no comprehensive definition of any religion nor its followers.Scriptures are cryptic, open to conflicting and condtradictory intertpretations and that is why  four versions of the Bible,so many sects and Churches of various denominations.

Salvation comes to those who accept themselves with humiltiy and accept others equally.
