The Catholic church castrated children to "cure" them of gayness?

Republican Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler believes that same sex marriage is like an uncle marrying his niece and a 50 year old marrying a 12 year old girl. Yes, she said that. She also believes that it is comparable to a 3 year old driving a car. At least, she didn't compare people to marrying dogs.

Yes, that is an actual argument used by opponents of marriage equality. The level of bigotry towards gays by many in the Republican party and the religious rightwing (often one and the same) is comparable only to the bigotry that the religious rightwing once directed against interracial couples.

I am sure you are well aware of the sex abuse scandals in the Catholic church. Not just here but in Europe. Well, not only were there abuses by priests of young children in the Netherlands, which resulted in priests being shuffled around, but the Catholic church castrated, yes castrated, a number of young boys in the 1950s, to "cure" them of their homosexuality. I wonder if that happened here in the U.S?

The Catholic church isn't as hostile to homosexuality as it once was. It isn't at the level of many evangelical churches in the U.S., in their disdain for gay men and women. In particular men of course. But, to castrate children to "cure" them is disgusting and shameful. The Catholic church needs to come clean on where and how many cases of this, actually happened.
