The Chambers Funeral Home in Riverdale, Maryland Has Lost its License After 40 Bodies Found Stacked in Their Garage
The Chambers Funeral Home & Crematorium in Riverdale have had their license revoked after investigators found 40 bodies stacked in their garage on top of each other and 'leaking bodily fluids' according to a report from CNN.
Some bodies were awaiting cremation and some were donated to a local university for research and some were from other funeral homes, but there has been outrage at the treatment of the bodies regardless of what destination they were headed for.
Hari Close, the president of the state funeral board said:
"Even somebody who donates their body to science, they still should be treated with dignity," said Close. "Not to mention the health and safety issues with the body fluids flowing out."
According to CNN, when investigators paid a visit to the funeral home on April 26, an employee of the home warned them about the bodies in the garage and told them 'not to get upset'.
What they saw in the room was described as a 'pile of body bags' just 'strewn on the floor' accompanying visible signs of leaking and a strong smell. There was also apparently writing on some of the bags, but due to the leakage of fluids the writing had smeared and could no longer be read. Due to this the remains or their destination could be easily identified.
The home has lost its license until the end of May at least, where there will be a hearing to determine if they can get it back.
