Champions Trophy 2013 India vs Sri Lanka Warm-up Match Live Score
India vs Sri Lanka Live Score of 2nd Warm-up Match in ICC Champions Trophy 2013 on June 1st played at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
India open their ICC Champions Trophy 2013 campaign on Saturday, 1st June, with a warm-up game at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham against Sri Lanka. The 17-day long tournament which officially kicks off on June 6, features 8 teams divided into two groups of four each. Each team plays two warm-up games before the start of the competition.
The tournament will see a return to the 50-over format of the game for both sides after a substantial period of time. Sri Lanka played their last 50 -over game in the last week of March against Bangladesh at home in a 3-match ODI series. India on the other hand played their last limited overs game in January against England in a 5-match ODI series which they won 3-2.
The Champions Trophy, also dubbed as the Mini-World Cup, was last staged in late 2009 in South Africa and was won by Australia, who defeated New Zealand in the final. The 2013 ICC Champions Trophy will be the seventh edition of the competition and see the top eight ranked-teams in the ICC ODI rankings as of six months prior to the tournament, face-off for the Trophy.
India skipper MS Dhoni hoped to get acclimatised to the conditions in England by making best use of their two warm-up games. India's last game in England was back in 2011 when they lost the 5-match ODI series 3-0 but Dhoni was confident his side would fare a lot better than then.
"The spinners had to literally deal with the wet ball and it was not possible for them to use their skills. The performance of the ODI squad was good, if you don't see just the results," Dhoni was quoted saying.
Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews was also confident of his side's preparation for the tournament, saying, "The guys who were in India (for the IPL) and Sri Lanka have all trained well, and there was a training tournament here. When we prepare for the Champions Trophy, we put in a lot of effort, and as a team we are ready for this."
