The premier had several meetings in his office with Dennis Skulsky, a senior Canwest executive, during the first Liberal term in office. And in recent years, the B.C. government has poured a lot of advertising dollars into Canwest newspapers and television stations.
I don't know if there is any fire under the smoke here but it is an interesting topic for discussion. According to Charlie Smith of the Georgia Straight, Canwest gave Campbell's party $50,000 and his Public Affairs Department put their ad dollars into The Sun and Province.

I hope it is just smoke, however it needs to be addressed and discussed as you suggest.

The answer seems obvious. They are the only 2 province-wide daily newspapers. The government has to use them if they want to reach maximum British Columbians.
