US actress Farrah Fawcett, famous for her role in the hit TV series,Charlie's Angels, has died of cancer in Los Angeles.

She was aged 62.The funeral of Farrah will be a private one to be held this Tuesday (June 30,2009) at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles.

It will be closed to the public and press.

Long-time companion Ryan O'Neal, their son,Redmond,24,who would get special permission from a judge to be sent from the prison to the church, relatives and friends like former co-stars in Charlie's Angels, movie directors and others known to Farrah, are expected to attend.

Farrah was honoured in 1995 with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.

As Jill Munroe in Charlie's Angels.her tousled blond locks were emulated by fans at the height of her popularity.

Her  red wet sexy swimsuit poster sold an incredible 12 million copies making her the 1970s popular culture icon.

Though nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe awards, she did not win any major awards for her screeen roles.

John Forsythe, who played the boss behind the scenes in Charlie's Angels, sends his deepest sympathies and prayers to Farrah's family and friends, saying:

"She put up a gallant fight against her unforgiving disease."

Weeks earlier, the television documentary,Farrah's Story, that she recorded to chronicle her battle with anal cancer, was broadcast.

"After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away," says her partner Ryan O'Neal.Farrah died at St. John.s Health Center in Santa Monica, reports The Los Angeles Times.

O'Neal had recently disclosed he and Farrah would get married but did not exchange vows. They had been together on and off since 1982.

They have a son,Redmond, who is in prison for drug offences.

Farrah was earlier married to Lee Majors, the star of the Six Million Dollar Man, in 1973 but the couple split in 1979.

"Farrah had courage, she had strength, and she had faith," says her former Charlie's Angels co-star Jaclyn Smith, who played Kelly Garrett in the action TV series.

"And now she has peace as she rests with the real angels," she adds.

Another co-star,Cheryl Ladd, who played Kris Munroe, describes Farrah as "incredibly brave".

As an action TV fan,I remember enjoying the winsome trio fighting for justice with Forsythe advising them on strategies.

Charlie's Angels was one of the best hit TV series, imitated by others.

The fighting skills, thrills, teamwork and fast-paced action  performed by the three beautiful stars were remarkable, winning fans around the globe.
