Chavez says US relations unlikely to improve under an Obama presidency
Some analysts have wondered whether Venezuela-US bilateral relations would improve under a Barak Obama presidency. A recent article by Christian Science Monitor expressed such dull conclusion. However, Chavez himself has rejected any change in his critical stand against imperialism. As under current Bush administration, commercial relations would most likely continue to flourish under a possible Democrat presidency though. Only time will tell.

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Venezuela's leftist President Hugo Chavez says rocky relations with Washington are unlikely to improve if Democrat Barack Obama is elected the next U.S. president. Chavez says Obama and Republican candidate John McCain both represent the interests of the U.S. «empire. He told a gathering of supporters Wednesday that Obama should not expect «carrot and stick» diplomacy will help the U.S. exert its influence in Latin America. A number of governments in the region have shifted away from Washington in recent years. Addressing Obama, the Venezuelan leader said: «A revolution has been unleashed in this land. Chavez is an outspoken critics of President Bush and U.S. foreign policy.
