Caracas, Venezuela, 27 July, 2008. During his weekly TV show, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez tols Colombian Defence Minister,Juan Manuel Santos, that the use of TELESUR logo during the recent intelligence operation to have FARC hostages freed was illegal. Colombian government has admitted using both Red Cross and TELESUR logos during the liberation attempt in order to fool FARC. However, the use of such logos constitute a serious attempt against the legitimacy of their future use in similar situations to rescue or cover news. Telesur has issued an statement condemning the allegations made by Colombian Minister Santos at Washington. During his recent visit to the US, Minister Santos had explained the use of fake nationalities or corporate identities to fool FARC members.  President Chavez also criticised the submissive links between Colombian Minster Santos and the current Bush administration. Finally, Chavez hinted Minister Santos should be sacked by President Uribe.

The New Television Station of the South (TELESUR), is a pan-Latin American television network based in Caracas, Venezuela. It has been broadcasting since 2005.
