The curry industry in the UK is worth around£3.5bn every year. Curry is the dish originating from South Asia and India in particular, is the national dish of the UK. Hot and spicy dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken and Lamb, and many vegetarian meals of a curry based nature are all big business for restaurants, take-outs up and down the country.

With recent changes by the UK government to the rules for migrant workers, especially, chefs from India and Pakistan, it is increasingly making it difficult for the restaurant owners to find suitably qualified staff to fulfil this role. The impact of this change is now hitting businesses hard.

Government ministers have come up with statements that have not amused the owners of the curry industry. Such as more South Asian women resident in the UK should be used for the role. Propositions of this kind are not easy to adopt due to kitchens in such places being dominated by male chefs and waiters, thus, making it difficult for women to work in such places due to social and cultural barriers.

The UK government has agreed to meet and discuss the matter. Find out more on this problem and see what some restaurant owners have to say on this pressing matter by reading the full article.
