Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger III: The Hero of Flight 1549
Since US Airways Flight 1549 ended in an emergency landing in the Hudson river survivors and media have been celebrating the pilot as a hero who saved 154 lives and averted a potential tragedy. Now the Hero of Flight 1549 has a name: Chesley B “Sully” Sullenberger III.
According to Captain Sullenberger's profile on LinkedIn, a professional social networking site similar to Facebook, C.B. “Sully” Sullenberger is not only a US Airways Captain with 29 years experience but also President & CEO of Safety Reliability Methods, Inc.
Safety Reliability Methods, Inc is a consulting firm “Providing technical expertise and strategic vision and direction to improve safety and reliability in a variety of high risk industries.” Sullenberger has definitely proven his expertise in safety after the miraculous landing of Flight 1549 in the Hudson river: not a single soul was lost.
February 1980 — Present (29 years)
Captain for major U. S. passenger airline, serving North America, Europe, Latin America, Caribbean and Hawaii with large jet equipment. Responsible for all aspects of safety and security pertaining to flight, including planning, preparation and aircraft servicing. Leader of crew and responsible for passengers and aircraft. As a Check Airman, was responsible for the training and supervision of other airline pilots transitioning to another aircraft type or upgrading to Captain. Served as an Air Line Pilots Association Local Air Safety Chairman and Accident Investigator and national technical committee member.
Survivors, eyewitnesses, rescuers and experts alike all hailed the expertise, bravery and cool of Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger III, a hero whose calm saved l55 people, including a little baby, from an icy and fiery death.
A former Air Force fighter pilot who worked for US Airways since 1980, Sullenberger gently touched down the Airbus 320 on the icy Hudson waters, miraculously delivering all onboard to safety.
"We've had a miracle on 34th Street,” Governor David Paterson. “Now I believe we've had a miracle on the Hudson.”
“The first and most important thing is that the pilot did a wonderful job,” said Bloomberg, noting that Sullenberger not only successfully piloted the plane but walked the aisles twice to make sure that every passenger had been rescued.
"It looks like a miraculous rescue," said Bill White of the nearby Intrepid Museum told NY1. "It was an extraordinary rescue effort."

Professionalism does pay off. Would not have wanted Joe the Plumber at the controls on this one.

Hurrah for Pilot Sullenberger! My daughter frequently flies out of LaGuardia.
I am glad to know that there are gentlemen out there, that are competent and
able. The pilots have been a target of ridicule for too long. Here's to you sir.

I think Sully did an excellent job. God was with him and all the people on that plane. They said they were praying, and he must have heard their prayers. Does Sully fly internationally? I'd like to be on his next flight!

It joys me to hear this as the news out of U.S. Heartfelt praise for the captain and crew, to avert a catastrophe is to land in the hearts of the people. Mr. Sullenberger where did your first name originate?

I was honored to know your father. On December 7, 1941 I was playing tennis with your father on Coranado Island. We were both young dentists when we were called back to quarters. History from there. When I saw your picture and heard your name, it brought back many fine memories of the times we spent together. Congratulations on your extroadinary feat. Sorry to have learned of your parents passing.
