Sullenberger Gets Hero's Welcome From Hometown Danville

The crowd chanted "Sully! Sully!" today as Chesley 'Sully' Sullengerger, US Airways 1549 pilot, was welcomed home by several thousand people in Danville, California, as a hero.

Sully Sullengerger said only a few words after a lot of speeches by other officials in the town.

"It was circumstances that put this experienced crew (in charge) of that plane on that particular day," Sullenberger said. "We were simply doing the jobs we were trained to do."

His quietness on the subject the world over is most curious about -- namely what happened right before he was forced make an emergency landing of Flight 1549 on the icy waters of the Hudson River last week — had been expected.
