NP Rank:
Chief Justice restored. But what about the Justice itself?
The present confrontation has been based on selfishness and ruthless ambitions at the cost of the state. This is the mind set of the movers and shakers of the political climate of Pakistan. Due to the lack of sincere and strong leadership we see many players struggling for power.
The Government
Led by Zardari of people’s party, the reluctance to re-instate chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was for self preservation. Because of the danger of him revoking the National reconciliation ordinance which waived all charges against Zardari and his late wife Benazir. There is also the danger that the chief justice might order the release of the terrorists just to assert his power and show his contempt to Musharaf and Zardari’s war on Islamist terrorists but his maybe a lesser worry because remaining in power as a president is the main concern.
Opposition:
Led by Nawaz Sherif who funded and provided the man power to the lawyers movement has his own agenda. From day one he said that he wants to be in charge and commented saying that the government wont last more than 6 month. Since the elections, most of his actions have been to ensure that the government falls down at whatever cost to the state, he cant care less.
It is just a happy coincidence that the lawyer movement has given him a well worked moral high ground and he is hoping that Zardari’s fears about Iftikhar come a reality giving him the chance to get in power while Zardari licks his wounds and bruised public standing.
He is also hoping that helping the chief justice back in the office he will have judiciary in his pocket and ever so thankful to him for his support and pressure on the government.
Things couldn’t be better for him.. he has seen off Musharaf shamed and confined to army house, he gloats at the misery and the trouble of his political rival party and Zardari in particular, he enjoys the support of Islamic fundamentalists and already dreaming of the breakdown of the present government and fresh elections. And not to mention hoping judiciary on his side.
Lawyers. / Chief justice
They have become another pressure group phenomenon. When you talk about Pakistan, you think of Military, left wing / secular peoples party, right wing Muslim league, and the ultra-right winged Mullahs. Now the black coats come in the arena and they want to assert their power and their share of the political piece.
I wish I can believe the claim that the lawyers movement is for the “just cause” and the sovernty of law and justice when they talk about the importance of restoring chief justice… the most instant and spontaneous reaction that comes to my mind is. “cough.. bull sh*t..” this is nothing more than another selfish power struggle.
While dismissal by Musharaf was controversial, Iftikhar Chaudhry made no secret of his personal grievance towards Musharaf’s government and made sure to cause as much problems, pain and frustration until he was kicked out by him.
Some of the highlights of this arrogant imbecile
While the country was suffering from continuous terrorist attacks and political anarchy. He was busy summoning senior civil administrators from other cities and dismissing them for traffic problems after humiliating them on front of everyone. He always got some kind of sad kick out of it.
He purposefully freed many of the lal Masjid activists who were caught on camera firing at the security forces. This was his brazen and shameless act that stunned everyone who was worried about the terrorists.. but this Chief Justice wanted to settle score with Musharaf.
After getting kicked out he became part of the lawyers movement where he will be greeted like a political leader going in a caravan of hundreds of vehicles causing traffic chaos and loss of life in port city of Karachi.
He never distanced himself from the political opportunists who showered the “just cause” of lawyers with money and logistical support for months and thus giving a middle finger to the impartiality to his position and the court he claims to present.
What now?
I hope that Zardari doesn’t do anything silly that proves disastrous for him and creates more uncertainty. Sacking of the Punjab provincial government of Sherif brothers was a bad move.
Nawaz will busy himself to revel at the political victory and hoping that the political and security situation deteriorates further bringing the chance of Army/ US intervention. Forcing the present government to topple setting up an interim government and preparing for the grand victory which is in his sight.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry
If one goes by his record, he must be thinking of the most shocking and outrageous steps to take once he assumes the office.. he grunts with sadist pleasure that troubling Zardari is too obvious, getting back at Musharaf is a must and something his ally Nawaz also wants him to do. Maybe order stopping the operation against the terrorists? Freeing up top terrorists known and proven to be the master minds of mass killing?
Watch this space..
Security forces
Their morale badly shaken due to lack of public support and lack of motivation to fight the Islamists, they helplessly see how the politicians once again bring the political astrosphere of the county to chaos Its between devil and the deep blue sea situation for them. Sworn to protect the integrality and sovernty of Pakistan they see how the politicians are busy in selfish squabbles for power with disregard to economic and security problems.
Taking over the power again from civilian government is unthinkable unless it has full American support which looks far from possible with Obama on helm in the white house. There might be some strong statement from Army circles in general to the politicians urging them to see sense in uniting for the sake of the country. Or a token visit to the President and prime Minster showing their support and a message to the opposition that the government is not alone..
Its only time that will tell.
Finally the Islamist Terrorists
As far as they are concerned the whole happening is unislamic and it means nothing to them. From their stand point all of the above mentioned leaders are condemned to death for being on the wrong side.. ok well they don’t have beard so they should be killed. They might give Nawaz Sherif a chance to grow his beard maybe he shows some potential and has so far distanced himself from out rightly condemning their methods. If anyone gives a single thought to the decision of judges restoration he shakes his head quickly and starts planning the next massacre.
Targets.. poorly trained police, demoralized army, women doctors, Shia’s, moderate Sunnis, secular Pukhtons. He finds himself spoiled for choice.. and suddenly there is a faint hum in the air.. he was warned of that by someone ….he looks to his fresh hit list again but then there is a huge explosion and the mud walls are collapsing, his body is flug in the air and there is fire all around. He realizes that either an American UAV drone or a Pakistani cobra gunship has found his hideout. He is still conscious.. but he knows he is dying, he is going to heaven as the “Ameer” (mentor/ leader) promised.. but wait.. why is this fire hurting him? Why he is still alive and his flesh is on fire. He experiences the full pain and screams and these screams remind him of the people he mowed down. He is confused, his mind is racing but then his skull explodes from the shrapnel of the exploding missile and everything turns dark (sorry I got carried away)

Thank you, Amaad. Lots of our problems over here are also "based on selfishness and ruthless ambitions at the cost of the state."
As for Lady Justice, she had a corneal transplant done, and now she can see just fine. She can see who is "important" and who is not by man's standards. She is no longer blind to the money and favors being offered for unrighteous decisions, and she judges accordingly.
