Child beating endorsed by church and dumb things Catholic clerics

 Religious rightwing churches often use violence and beatings against children if they do minor infractions. No surprise, religion is often built on violence.
Rightwing religions have an authoritian streak to them. In La Habra, California a teenager wasbeaten for smoking by an "enforcer" at a church, at the urging of the kid's parents. Yes, for smoking.
But than again, the religious rightwing are the strongest supporteres of torture, or the PC term, enhanced interrogations. Such as waterboarding. They state this while they talk about their absolute morality.  
In to other religious rightwing news, a Spainish Catholic Bishop Demetrio Fernández stated that UNESCO, which is a United Nations agency, has a secret plan to make half the world gay. Yes, half the world gay. How did he ever find out? Sheesh, why is the Catholic church afforded any respect when they have people like this making such incredibly stupid comments?
I mean, it's not like this guy is just a priest. No, he's a bishop! Wait, this isn't just his opinion, it is a Catholic Cardinal, and not just any cardinal, but the Minister for Family of the Papal Government, Cardinal Antonelli who told the bishop this supposed fact. Why we don't withdrawl our ambassador to the Vatican, i have no idea.
