A knock-on effect of the cyclone and its aftermath: human traffickers are capitalizing on the confusion and desperation of Burmese citizens.
Two traffickers are reported to have been arrested in the worst-hit delta region, where up to 100,000 people are believed to have died.
Many children have been orphaned by the distaster, leaving them vulnerable to abuse.
Britain’s Save The Children charity said it had received a report of the arrests from local aid workers.

This is sick. Sometimes I wonder about the future of the human race...

Yeah, it's extremely disgusting. I remember hearing about this sort of thing after the tsunami, too.

jordan, thanks to you and everchanging for this story. Let's hope that this government will begin to respond appropriately to the help being offered, and that it will take it upon itself to ban children being moved, as the Indonesian government did when it realized its child citizens were threatened by human traffickers.

jordan, I like this story. It's good stuff. Something like this calls for capital punishment or life in prison for those sick bastards out there, thanks for bringing this sad and tragic story to light Jordan.
