Children of lesbian couples do better than those of non-gays
Opponents of marriage equality often say that marriage should be reserved for what the churches say it is. They say it is a religious word. Well, marriage as recognized by the government is civil in nature. If not, than atheists might be banned from marrying, by those on the religious right-wing who believe that marriage is an institution made by their deity.
So with this in mind, more so than ever, same sex marriages should be recognized in order to uphold the principle that the government and the civil law is not the arm of any religion, no matter how powerful.
Now, those who are opposed to gay rights often compare heterosexual two parent households (which do better on average) to heterosexual one parent housholds, and from that just interchange the one parent hetero parent households to two parent gay households. Obviously, two parent gay households are much closer in fact to two parent heterosexual households.
The children of gay couples do as well as the children of non-gay couples. Indeed, the children of lesbian couples, do really well. So, I guess not only evolutionary biology does the religious rightwing flunk, they also flunk basic sociology.
By the way, homosexuality is no more immoral than being lefthanded. I am, like about 90% of Americans, righthanded. I don't despise those who are lefthanded, indeed, they have certain advantages in baseball. Being lefthanded and being gay are just the same thing, it is who they are. Just descriptive, nothing more.
My mother is naturally lefthanded, in her youth they forced her (like they did to millions of people) to write with her right hand, just like many gays today are forced or pressured to pray away the gay, in so called therapies to turn them non-gay. Of course, many people in the so called ex-gay movement, find themselves caught in gay bars. I am sure they are just helping people to once again pray away the gay.
Finally, please petition Congress to support a repeal of the anti-family, so called Defense of Marriage ACT, or DOMA. This prohibits the federal government from recognizing any state same sex marriage. It would have been like if we as a nation banned federal recognition of any interracial marriages, in 1912.
