This is follow up of the news item titled "Car struck three-year-old boy, driver arrested".

Lebert St. Bernard, a neibour of the child, saw the car strike the child and leave the scene.

A Mississauga, Ont. man is being hailed a hero after he detained a suspect wanted in a hit-and-run that left a three-year-old boy in hospital.

Lebert St. Bernard was on his way home from work when he saw the child cross Britannia Road by himself at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The toddler had managed to slip out of his home on Glen Erin Drive undetected and wandered onto the street.

Bernard said he then saw a car strike the child and then leave the scene. He chased the suspect, boxed him in with his car and called police.


He got another car to look after the child and jumped into his truck and chased down driver and stopped him. see the video link here:

The child condition improved, still serious and suffering from a broken leg.

The child remains at The Hospital for Sick Children in serious condition. His condition has improved but he is suffering from a broken leg and injuries to his face. His parents are at his side.

update:

A three-year-old boy struck by an alleged hit-and-run driver has seen his condition upgraded to serious from critical condition. The boy is in the Hospital for Sick Children suffering from a broken leg and injuries to his face. His parents are at his side. In addition, his family has released a statement thanking the man who helped police catch the man accused of striking the boy before driving off. "We want to thank the Good Samaritan who helped police apprehend the driver. Our family is grateful," they said in the statement released Thursday. "We appreciate all the prayers and support from everyone during this difficult time."
