Chilean Miner Rescue Not Complete Without Oakley Sunglasses
The Chilean Miners Have All Been Given a Pair of Oakley Sunglasses to Help Protect Their Eyes From the Harsh Chile Sun
In a statement on their website, Oakley says that they were approached by a Chilean journalist a few weeks ago to supply the eyewear that will protect the miners' eyes from the sun as they ascend to the surface.

Minister of Mining Laurence Goldborne is also wearing one of the Oakley sunglasses.
Before the rescue, the miners had to perform 20 minutes of aerobic exercise each day and they had to fast for 8 hours before their turn to be lifted to the surface.
Doctors warned of the severe damage that could occur to the miners' retinas if they reached the surface without proper protective eyewear after spending so much time in the dark underground.
According to Front Row Analytics, Oakley will receive about $41 million US in exposure for their donation to the miners' rescue.
The miners’ eyes will be dilated, and this brings the risk of added UV exposure to delicate structures within the eye. Oakley Plutonite® lens material filters out 100% of all UVA, UVB, UVC and harmful blue light up to 400nm.
