China and India – Will they fight a war again?

China of late has been targeting India on the border issue, particularly The Arunachal Issue. China refuses to recognise this state as part of India and behaves as though it is disputed territory occupied by India. The 83743 square Km shares a long international border with Bhutan as well as China and Burma has attained state hood status in India with effect from 1987.

The population of Arunachal Pradesh participate in regular elections and democratically elect the leaders. Chinese of late are objecting to the visits by political leaders like the Prime Minister, President etc contending that it is a disputed territory. Having annexed Tibet, illegally occupying part of Kashmir gifted by Pakistan China is looking for border issues to rise tensions in the area and create a war like situation. In the case of Jammu and Kashmir it is issuing visa on a separate paper to its citizens though Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India.

Despite border talks to cool the tensions and assurances by China that it is all for maintaining peace with India, yet the hardening Chinese attitude is a pointer to the fact that China is itching to risk a war with India to appease the Chinese Population about its superiority. May be China today has emerged as a strong economic nation, yet no nation on earth is ready to brand it as a democratic nation.

The Chinese are raising serious objections to the visit of Dalai Lama, the spiritual head of Buddhists and the exiled Tibetan leader to the state of Arunachal Pradesh which is nothing but a game plan to pressurise India to give in to the Chinese claims to the territory of India.

India too has responded without bowing to the Chinese pressure that Dalai Lama is free to visit Arunachal Pradesh, an integral part of India which is not to the liking of the Chinese.

Unless the world takes a serious note of the situation and ensures that peace prevails and tensions eliminated, we may be heading towards conflict zone between the two most populous countries with serious consequences for the rest of the world.

Countries like USA need to look into the emerging conflict zone and prevail upon China to settle the issues with its neighbours peacefully in letter and spirit instead of threat posturing.

Why has a third nation to intervene in bilateral issues? Isn't this the bone of contention in Indo-Pak talks also: US intervention?

While both India and Pakistan maintain that they want to resolve the issues without third party intervention, yet they were unable to resolve the issues and seek good offices of leading nations like the US to persuade the other country. It is the international opinion that can change the equation and situation for the better whether we agree or not.
