The Associated Press is reporting that 23 miners were killed in a gas explosion at a coal mine in China. The mine is located in the city of Fuxon in the province of Liaoning which is known as one of China's main coal harvesting areas.

"So far, we have got a report saying that there are 23 dead and four missing in the accident, but other details are still unknown," said Li.

Sources say that rescuers are currently searching for the 4 miners that were stuck inside the mine. China's coal mines are some of the most dangerous in the world and around 3,800 people died in Chinese mines last year. The coal mines are the source of 70% of China's energy and in an effort to meet this demand, safety issues are often ignored. The mines kill an estimated 13 workers a day with their frequent floods, fires, and explosions.

this is not the first time that this kind of unsafe mining deaths are reported from china.we can easily pridict how china is growing in double digits without making essential expenditure on saftey of miners. good stuff.

Gh0s7, I like this story. It's good stuff.  My family is from Coal Minors near Nanicoke, PA .  I remember growing up and seeing on store signs, "No Miners"  I could understand why folks were against coal miners... Thankfully my uncle told me that they were not against the workers but against children LOL.  Several of my relatives died from Black Lung.

I wish that coal minors could have safer environments to work in.  I cringe everytime I see another coal mine accident.

It must just be terrible being trapped in a mine.

Gh0s7, I like this story. It's good stuff.  Those poor people forced to go underground to provide fuel for the Dragon.  I wonder sometimes, if some of the coal miners are being "re-educated" and therefore disposable.
