Typhoon Fung-wong has passed through Taiwan after killing two people and sparking flash floods forcing hundreds of people to evacuate from their homes across the island. Now late yesterday, the Typhoon made landfall in southeast China's Fujian Province and was expected to bring further heavy rains and strong winds to the coastal areas of the province early today.
Chinese officials have evacuted over 2, 00,000 people from the coastal areas until the typhoon passes through.
China evacuated more than 2 lakh people in the east as typhoon 'Fung Wong' approached. The typhoon is likely to hit Fujian at midnight, state-run Xinhua news agency said.
Authorities evacuated around 230,764 people in Zhejiang Province and recalled 26,242 fishing boats to the shore.
The evacuation drive disrupted flights' movement as 49 airlines were cancelled at the Fuzhou International Airport.
Fung Wong is the eighth tropical storm to hit China's coast and is likely to lash Xiapu and Jinjiang counties in neighbouring Fujian.
Weather warnings have been issued.
