Green technology Summit Shanghai

San Francisco Mayor Newsom: America wake up

"America had better wake up to this likelihood," said San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom at a green technology summit last month in Shanghai aimed primarily at foreign investors interested in entering China's burgeoning cleantech industry.

Nearly half a dozen such conferences have been held in Shanghai and Beijing in recent weeks.

"If China takes advantage of their opportunity to move as aggressively as we know they can move, we will be left in economic dust," Newsom continued.

America no longer technology leader

"It's no longer America leading the way and China reacting. It's starting to go the other way around."

Progressive environmental policies from the Chinese government combined with an increasingly green-minded public is fueling what some are calling a clean technology renaissance around the country.

ENERGY SAVINGS FOR BIG CITIES PACKAGE DEAL:
Solarlifecapital Flashinfo Gopublic France

The Chinese government is spending millions of dollars on clean energy initiatives ranging from the construction of charging stations for electric vehicles in several major cities to massive wind farms in Inner Mongolia and offshore in the Pacific Ocean.

U.S. and European Tech & Venture Capital advantages,

However what China does not have yet have is the technological innovation that characterizes clean energy sectors in America and Europe. While the country is one of the world's largest manufacturers of solar panels and wind turbines, many of the advances for solar and wind technologies are still largely coming from the West.

Amitjha...Nice to see china going Red to Green. Nice comment red to green, I like it. Many power electronic units for hybrid or electric cars will come from China after the elctronic toys. Who starts can go on.

In political arena, red specifies commnist china and green islamc democracy of pakistan, but in the world of environment going green is appreciated but going green in politics is equivalent to opting for terrorism . so the confusion lies in colour movement, red shift or green shift.

Amitjha, D'ont worry, there is no confusion for "going green", it is a fix term in english language. Green like Green peace.

I like Red....It is far from dead. Hope is China will take on Geothermal to run its railways, and to dump the coal industry. The Chinese CCP will save billions for their expansion into Western China.

djermano..geothermal, yes but as you say biggest polluter a new coal fired plant every month, how to dump the coal industry?

Easy....drill and use Geothermal electric..and then just stop mining for coal. It will take time to do by bringing up the Geothermal Power, but once done....say Good Bye Coal.

Great story Solarlife. China going green is good for the whole world. It takes one country to start it and suddenly everyone realizes that it is a good idea, even for the economy. Canada and US will be left behind to choke in their choices.

How come Germany did start it along with Sweden and Denmark in the early 1970th and still today not to many are following. China has been at it for almost a decade, and has invested more over the last 10 year into green energies then the US and Canada combined.

Paschen....How come Germany did start it along with Sweden and Denmark in the early 1970th ? Good education and in the case of Germany high refinancing of solar investment by good sales price for clean energy to big providers. As well as financing clean equipment with the Bank for reconstruction on a seperate account.

The advances in green technologies may be coming from the west, but the U.S. isn't taking advantage of them.  And just because the newest technology is coming from the west, what is going to keep China from using this technology?  This isn't an arms race we are talking about here.
