China raises tobacco tax to curb smoking
China has raised taxes on tobacco by 6 to 11 percent to reduce the smoking in the world's largest cigarette market. Well this seems that now china government is quite conscious about the smoker community and wants to reduce the consumption of the cigarette.
But does this will impact on smokers??? I am not sure this will but this will surely increase the revenue of china government....
As smokers will find alternate solution for that rather then quitting smoking....
Hope this change will reduce the consumption of cigarette in china......

Tobacco wholesalers have also been hit with a five percent levy according to new tax rates that went into effect on May 1 but were announced over the weekend, the State Administration of Taxation said in a notice on its website.
"Efforts to increase the tobacco tax and lift tobacco prices have proven the most effective in reducing smoking among smokers of all income levels," the China Daily quoted the Chinese Association of Tobacco Control as saying Monday.

Wrong. China raised tax to increase government revenue. The only way to curb smoking is to ban tobacco altogether and enforce it.

Not exactly. Raising the price of ciggies tends to curb youth from smoking because, still not addicted, it is an option for them to smoke or not to smoke.
I would guess that they needed to raise the tax more than that to get effective results, though.
