Calling President Obama's anti-dumping measure of imposing trade restriction and tariffs on Chinese made tyres as "protectionist", Chinese Ministry of Commerce today ordered anti-dumping investigation on import of U.S. produced chicken and automobile products. This reaction of the Chinese Government is considered as the first "dragon fire test" for Obama administration.

China today launched anti-dumping and anti-subsidies investigations into automobile and chicken products imported from the US apparently in "retaliation" of President Barack Obama imposing a whopping 35 per cent additional import duty on Chinese tyres.

Earlie rChen Deming, China's minister of commerce expressed anger over Obama's decision saying that such negative measures will hurt it's relationship with the U.S. and it is a "wrong signal" to the world.

Chen Deming, China's minister of commerce, said the penalties would hurt relations with the U.S. A ministry statement said Obama had "compromised to the political pressure of the U.S. domestic trade protectionism."
"The Chinese government will continue to uphold the legitimate interests of China's domestic industry and has the right to take corresponding measures," Deming said.

I think China has more then a valid point here and it is not alone either.

The US may very well drive it self into a corner out of wish there is no escape.

If the Chinese and Japanese governments took their dollars and exchanged them for the yuan and the yen, then the dollar would go down as their currencies went up and we would be able to buy a lot less from them and they would be able to buy a lot more from us, allowing our economies to come into equilibrium.

This currency manipulation, the lack of exchange, is at the basis of the whole problem. We don't have "equilibrium".

China and Japan both would experience major economic problems if they did this NOW, having avoided doing this for decades with the complicity of American manufacturers who wanted to set up shop in a low-wage and low-value currency environment and then make money selling their products to the Chinese and then back to the US consumers at the same time.

The problems refuse to go away and keep popping up as we protect our industries and jobs from destruction by China and Japan and their economic warfare, their will to destroy our economy and make it subordinate to their own.

An exaggeration?

Only by degree.

The Japanese are reported to have parties and celebrate the "death" of American competitors.

What China wants to do is force us to sell them our land and resources to pay our bills. Then they can "own" the US outright and our national sovereignty will go the way of the dodo bird.

Quite frankly, I'm absolutely disgusted that American politicians, beginning with Richard Nixon, got us to the point where we're now beholden to the Chinese government and we have to walk on egg shells in order not to offend its sensibilities. Moreover, I'm sickened over the fact that the U.S. government kowtows to a regime that has proven itself time and time again to be nothing but a bunch of thugs and brutal dictators. And I  have nothing but utter contempt for American corporations, such as Walmart, that perpetuate slave labor on the part of Chinese citizens in order to flood the Anerican consumer market with cheap goods (and in many cases unsafe goods) manufactured in China.

I am always amazed at Neil Cavuto (Itlalian-American and Roman Catholic) when he sits there and defends Wal-Mart as a "success". Even the pope, Leo XIII, I am pretty sure, talked about a "living wage".

How come the right-wing Neanderthals like Buchanan get it and the "touchy-feely" types and the Wall Streeters on both sides can't get it?

Contempt for regular people? Elitism? Rich folk who want even more money?

And one more thing: God bless President Obama for pissing off the Chinese government! If he keeps it up, he'll have my vote in 2012 notwithstanding my disagreements with his other policies. Go to bed with dog wake up with fleas! No! No! No!

Hey, I "showed up" just to bless our Dear Prez on his Astute Judgment. He has my 100% SUPPORT on this.

Maybe he will get his Second Mojo Wind and do the right thing. :)

This import tax is the first of many I expect, its the only way that USA can bring a manufacturing base back to its shores. I expect import taxes on certain products will be also imposed by EU on the Chinese. This is something I mention a year ago that the only solution to solve the unemployment problem is to create a new manufacturing base at home and tax certain Chinese goods.

Thanks, and good point about Europe, BF. Europe, except for the UK, has always had more sense on this issue.

The Chinese gov't wants a trade war?  Bring it on.

Roy C's predicts: cooler heads in the Chinese gov't will allow this so that we can have an economy, pay our taxes and redeem our T-bills of which they own trillions of dollars' worth.

To keep what they have, they can't keep eating us alive. You kill the cow and the milk goes with it. Funny how that works.

The Chinese will shout make a noise it may do a few silly things, curse capitalism in the west. I wouldn't mind betting that China has already done a deal to accept tax increases on some of its products for more access to oil such as in Iraq.  It will of course argue what products should be taxed.

The global oil and gas picture is started to look interesting again with some interesting chess moves being made.

I am waiting for the announcement that China will be building a transcontinental oil pipeline from Iraq to its completed pipeline on the border of Afghanistan. lol

Though at this point I am joking I may of made a prediction?
