NP Rank:
A Chopper goes down in Burns Bog
Burns Bog is an area in Delta, BC. about 20 miles southeast of Vancouver which is a heavy, marshy peat bog which covers several hectacres, and is often found smouldering and burning from beaneath the surface by the extreme it creates. As a result of this burning, which can occur a couple of times yearly, heavy, dense pollution over the city can cause hazardous conditions for driving on two major highways nearby.
A helicopter with three men on board went down in Burns Bog Wednesday night.
Emergency crews used dune buggies to get to the men while the RCMP's Air One watched from above. Delta Deputy Fire Chief Brian Funnell says they still don't know why the craft went down, "Transport Canada will be investigating. Fire department, police department did a joint effort at retrieving these people, so everything worked out very well for everybody involved".
The men were not hurt but were taken to Surrey Memorial to be checked out. Their names haven't been released.
