"The terrorists are determined to hamper the political process in Iraq and not let Iraqis live in peace even after the withdrawal of foreign forces from the cities...We demand that the Iraqi government take all necessary measures to protect Christians in Baghdad, and in all of Iraq."
Younadem Kana, a Christian lawmaker

Christian churches in Baghdad, Iraq, came under bomb attack on Sunday, leaving four people dead and many more wounded. The targeted churches were reported to be seriously damaged. The affected districts are Al-Wehda, Al-Tehriyat and Al-Ghedir. The deadliest blast happened in the Palestinian street in Central Baghdad. The attacks happened just weeks after the pullout of US troops from the major cities in Iraq. The US contingency has been stationed in Iraq since 2003 when the war in Iraq broke out. The complete withdrawal of the US troops from Iraq is scheduled for 2011.

Three Christians and one Muslim died in the bombing at around 7 p.m. near a church on Palestine Street in eastern Baghdad, said a police officer who was at the scene. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
Christians in the mainly Muslim Iraq are a minority group, and they have been from time to time targeted for attacks, particularly in Baghdad and northern provinces.

There are some 750,000 people in Iraq's Christian community.
